Are you needing help introducing composition?
Teaching Middle School and Jr. High School music students how to write a melody is not always easy. The worksheets and activities in this resource set out a step-by-step method that students will understand and enjoy.
I have used the process outlined in this resource to teach music composition for many years with my classes, and it works without fail! My students call it my melody writing recipe!
PRINTABLE FORMAT
This product contains a PDF and a PPT version of the resource.
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
A NINE-page Teachers Resource that explains in detail, step by step, a process for young musicians to follow when writing their first four-bar melody.
A TEN-page Student Workbook
I show the slides in the Teachers Resource on a digital projector and demonstrate the information on a whiteboard as we work our way through slides 2 - 9.
You may choose to have your students follow and work in their Student Workbooks as you go through the information OR have them watch the demonstration first and then work through their booklet.
The students then take the knowledge and process they are learnt to compose TWO 8-bar melodies.
The final TWO slides in the Student Workbook can be copied and reused for further melody writing exercises.
Students will need to have a little background knowledge of keys and chords
Suitable for: Years 7-11
