Lesson one with a year 7 mixed ability group. Starter activity was looking at an image and asking what they could see, and then zooming in to see if they saw key parts of the picture. You can use the information on Word as a discovering the difference between the two microscopes (good for those following a spiral curriculum).

You can use these images as cards to print off and then students arrange into different stages of classification. Start with the Kingdoms. Then select the Animals. Organise animals into vertebrates and invertebrates. Select vertebrates. Organise vertebrates to mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians. Select mammals. Ask them to organise cats and not cats. You can then talk about individual species.
