A 25 minute Tutor Time session created especially for LGBT+ Month to reduce transphobia and celebrate diversity (Feb 2019). This is the fifth of six sessions to be used throughout LGBT+ month, each focusing on and exploring the culture and history of a different aspect of the LGBTQAI community, from Lesbians (L) to Intersex (I). The session contains three challenge learning outcomes, slides of easy to digest information, a clip task with differentiated questions, a quiz and final reflection task. Puberty and Our Genes: Understanding puberty and exploring our genetic blueprint. This one-hour introductory lesson is designed for students in UKS2 (Year 6) or possibly students in LKS3. The lesson focuses on the intricate relationship between our genes and the changes our bodies undergo during puberty. Through age-appropriate discussion and scaffolded activities, students will delve into the role of genes, DNA, and chromosomes in determining not only our biological sex but also the spectrum of changes our bodies undergo when transitioning into young adults. We will also discuss other non-genetic factors that can play a role, such as our health, lifestyle factors, and the importance of eating a healthy and nutritious diet.
