In this lesson, the students will explore gender stereotypes and the negative impact that they can have on a person’s career. We will look at some examples of positive and negative stereotypes and discuss how these ideas can lead to people being treated unfairly. We will look at the experiences of women in STEM, with a particular focus on the mistreatment of female scientists throughout history. We will then discuss different ways that we can challenge gender stereotypes and ways that we can celebrate the achievements of women. We will look at the reasons why people set personal goals, and through a series of examples explore the different ways that a goal can be broken down into smaller, manageable targets. The students will learn how to create SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-based) targets and apply their skills to a series of case studies.
