Climate change / global warming KS1 PSHE lesson.
A one-hour long, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS1, however, the activities could easily be adapted for use with older students.
In this lesson, the children will learn about climate change and the reasons why our world is getting warmer. We will discuss the harmful effects of greenhouse gases and the different ways we can help to lessen the effects of global warming.
The lesson includes a case study starter, a video clip with accompanying questions, an sorting task and a puzzle plenary task.
This lesson would also serve as a useful resource to celebrate ‘Earth Day’. Created to fit the new DfE and PSHE Association statutory 2020 /21 guidelines, the lesson includes a detailed PowerPoint, all editable with accompanying tasks and worksheets.
The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.

Sustainability - Food Security
How will our farms adapt to a changing climate?
A detailed, editable 1 hour lesson all about climate change, food security, farming sustainability and the reasons why we need to consume our planet’s resources responsibly.
Created to fit an ‘adaptive teaching style’ the lesson is influenced by Rosenshine’s principles of instruction, and promotes both cognitive and metacognitive strategies.
In this lesson, the students will discuss the challenges we face if we are to feed a growing future population. We will investigate the pressures of 2 billion extra people by the year 2050, alongside a changing climate. We will discuss the benefits of sustainable farming and the reasons why we need to adapt if we are to feed the planet in the not so distant future.
The lesson is ideally suited to students in UKS2 or younger students in KS3.

Renewable energy, fossil fuels, and climate change lesson.
A detailed, differentiated and editable 1 hour lesson all about the UK’s energy needs and the government’s plans to phase out the use of carbon-based fuels. In this lesson, the students will learn about the nation’s energy consumption of electricity, natural gas, and solid fuels.
We will investigate the pros and cons of different energy sources including renewables and fossil fuels. We will reflect on the reasons why we are moving away from carbon-based fuels and discuss how easy it will be for the UK to achieve their carbon-neutral target.
