Staying Safe Online (H34 / R14 / L7) This lesson focuses on online safety, in particular, providing students with a set of online safety rules that should be followed when communicating or searching online. Online Information (L7 / L9) In this lesson, we will discuss the pitfalls of searching for information online, in particular, having the skill set top discern whether an online source can be trusted. Asking for permission (Year 1) This lesson explores the concept of asking for permissions and the various scenarios where it is polite to do so. We will discuss consent in an age appropriate context (specifically asking permission before giving someone a hug or stroking a cat or dog.) Brilliant Bodies (Year 2 - Free Download) This health lesson explores the correct scientific terms for a variety of body parts, including private body parts (penis, testicles and vulva). We will also revisit safe and unsafe touch including the ‘swimwear’ safety rule. Secrets and surprised This lesson explores harmful secrets and happy surprises with a particular focus on unsafe touch and what to do if you ever feel pressure to keep something unsafe or upsetting a secret. Each lesson includes a variety of fun and creative activities, plus enough teaching materials to last at least an hour. The resources are also suitable for use in schools who have opted to follow the PSHE Association’s Thematic Model for KS1. Secrets and surprises KS1 PSHE lesson. A one-hour long, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS1. This lesson has been created for Year 2, however, the activities are fully editable and could easily be adapted for both younger (Year 1) or older students (Year 3). In this lesson, the children will learn about harmful secrets and what you should do if a secret makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. The lesson includes a case study starter, a story with accompanying comprehension questions, a card sort discussion task and a plenary. Created to fit the new DfE and PSHE Association statutory 2020 /21 guidelines, the lesson includes a detailed PowerPoint, all editable with accompanying tasks and worksheets. The 4-lesson unit includes the following: Caring for living things In this lesson, the children will learn about the responsibilities associated with caring for living things. We will talk about ‘needs’ and reflect on the various things animals and plants must have if they are to survive. The students will read Don’t let them disappear by Chelsea Clinton, before completing a conservation poster activity linked to the text. All about recycling In this lesson, the children will learn about recycling. We will discuss the reasons why recycling is so important as well as taking a closer look at the different types of materials that can and can’t be recycled. The students will read Why do we recycle? by Jen Green, before completing an activity linked to the text. The lesson includes a case study starter, a story with accompanying questions, a recycling sorting task and a debate-style plenary. Plastic and pollution In this lesson, the children will learn about the vast quantity of plastic that is finding its way into rivers and oceans. We will discuss the impact of plastics on wildlife and the consequences of microplastics entering the food chain . The students will read A planet full of plastic by Neal Layton, before completing an awareness leaflet activity linked to the text. The lesson includes a case study starter, a story with accompanying questions, an awareness leaflet activity and a plenary task. Global warming / climate change In this lesson, the children will learn about climate change and the reasons why our world is getting warmer. We will discuss the harmful effects of greenhouse gases and the different ways we can help to lessen the effects of global warming. Each lesson includes a variety of fun and creative activities, plus enough teaching materials to last at least an hour.
