Disability Discrimination+ The Equality Act (MACS Charity Lesson)

(1)
A KS3 PSHCE lesson which serves as both an introduction to the concept of disability discrimination and the 2010 Equality Act. The lesson, created by MACS Charity with EC Resources, allows students to investigate the benefits to society of the 2010 Equality Act by studying cases of discrimination in the wider world. These resources also serve to highlight how MACS charity (Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia and Coloboma Support) helps children with visual impairments and prepares them for life as independent and disabled UK citizens. The lesson lasts around 2 hours and includes differentiated activities, case study investigations, clip tasks and group activities as well as guidance to show how the lesson meets sections of the new PSHE draft curriculum from the DfE for 2020 and the statutory Citizenship curriculum for KS3. The lesson is in the Zip File - the images have been uploaded so you can clearly see what the lesson includes. MACS is a charity for young people who were born without eyes or with underdeveloped eyes, so the assemblies focus on the importance of valuing our vision and how we should treat everyone with respect and without prejudice. For school fundraising resources, MACS bunting and masks and further information, please visit the MACS website: https://macs.org.uk/schools-pack-downloads/ For more information on how you and your school can get involved, visit: https://macs.org.uk/schools

Masculinity PSHE

(6)
New edition, all new content. A detailed, differentiated and editable PSHE lesson all about the best qualities and traits of masculinity and masculine men. The message basically is ‘in a world of Andrew Tates, be a Marcus Rashford’. Students will explore some great male case studies and investigate the positive qualities of masculinity (courage, mastery, strength and honour). This lesson took quite a while to put together, a lot of thought has gone into it and it is aimed at the kind of boys who may feel a little lost at the moment, with talk of toxic masculinity and ‘the future is female.’ All answers included. This meets all the latest 2020-2022 PSHE guidelines and will last you one hour. You need no previous knowledge to teach this as it comes with all information needed. Activities are scaffolded, there is a detailed and colourful PowerPoint, worksheets, creative task, match-up tasks, signposting to further help agencies and charities, clear outcomes and also literacy and partnered activities. It is fully editable, engaging and very easy to follow. Who are EC Resources? This lesson has been created for Year 2, however, the activities could easily be adapted to suit students in Year 1. Momo Challenge - Dangerous Hoax Reading Comprehension

(3)
A detailed reading comprehension all about the recent ‘Momo Challenge’ (no pictures of Momo included) and the dangers of online challenges that this hoax has highlighted. This reading comprehension includes three sets of differentiated challenge questions, so with reading, discussion and answering the questions this will keep a group busy for 25-30 mins. It is perfect for Form Time or an activity in any English or PSHE lesson. The article, written by journalist R E Hunt (who has kindly let us share her work) investigates the irony behind the Momo Challenge - where the fear and harm from the sight of Momo were actually spread by the news media trying to warn parents about it. The article contains a serious message - Momo was a hoax - but a hoax based upon reality. It reiterates how young people can stay safe and use their critical thinking skills not to fall victim to future Momos. End of Term Tutor Time / PSHCE

(2)
A fun and creative Citizenship / Tutor Time project lesson for students in the last week of term. Could be used for activities week in Humanities or just as a reward lesson the last time you see your class for the summer. Very easy to set up - you will just need a few balloons, string, sellotape, old clothes, felt tips and a any other boxes/construction materials you can find (just things that would usually be thrown in the recycling). The students work in small groups to research and recreate a famous political icon (info sheets and clip tasks included - all instructions on Powerpoint). The lesson can last as long as you want it to, and I gave prizes of sweets at the end for the best one - but that’s optional! My students really enjoyed it and we took pictures at the end for the school website. Hopefully yours will love it too. I’m going to be adding lots more free PSHCE lessons over the coming months. Follow me to see when they’re uploaded! :)
