(0)
A short sequence of teacher-led oral drilling activities to practise/revise the present tense of the big 4 irregulars in French. This activity should be after pupils have seen the tables of conjugations and are familiar with the English meanings. Possible sequence: model the pronunciation of the sentences 1-5 on each slide, do some listen & repeat oral drills (choral repetition, individual repetition, whispering, shouting etc. to drill pronunciation) pupils translate orally into english in pairs pupils given 30 seconds / 1 minute to ‘memorise’ the verbs and their meanings on the sentences memory task - recall the verbs repeat for the other verbs matching task to reinforce verb meanings - pupils do orally in pairs gap-fill task - you could cold call pupils for this one. If it’s too hard, give them 2 options orally in French eg. ‘J’ai sept cours’ or ‘Je suis sept cours’ ? matching task to summarise on other ppt.

Les avantages et les inconvénients d’habiter à la campagne listening or reading

(0)
A very simple reading or listening activity for learning about the pros and cons of living in the town / country. Pupils will need to be familiar with most of the vocab in these sentences before doing this activity. You can either project some of the sentences onto the board and have students read them aloud in pairs, then say whether it’s a pro or con, or you can do it as a listening - select perhaps 8-10 of the sentences. Say each one in a random order, and pupils note on miniboards / scrap paper if i’ts a pro or a con. You could follow up with a ‘vocab hunt’ - write a list of English words on the board that appear in these sentences and pupils have to find the vocab.

2 resources: A listening activity and verb conjugation activity to practise using the present and future tenses together - a good consolidation exercise for when pupils have studied both tenses separately A selection of activities designed for practising the present, near future and future together. The idea is that pupils should have already studied the present tense and near future before, and have recently covered the future tense. This sheet will then allow for practise using the three together to reinforce the differences between them. Activities include completing tables, translation and listening. Spanish listening / writing / translation tasks on physical description and personality

(0)
Two ways of using this resource: LISTENING: project the doc on the board / print copies for pupils, choose one of the people, say ‘Antonio, number 1:’ and give a short sentence or phrase in Spanish that matches one of the lines in Antonio’s profile. Pupils must find the detail and write ‘1’ next to it. Continue with all the details in his profile in a random order to practise recognising them. To make the activity harder, say a sentence in Spanish from any of the descriptions and pupils have to write the name of the person. WRITING: This activity should be completed once pupils have had extensive practice on vocab for describing physique and personality and could be used as assessment. Pupils can select one of the four people and complete sentences covering as many aspects mentioned as possible in Spanish. You could project the doc and annotate with bits of vocab in Spanish as support if necessary.

Listening comprehension & oral translations physical description, Spanish eyes hair other details

(0)
Worksheet with table to fill in in Spanish, and completed table - teacher uses completed table to read out sentences describing each person. Teacher can make the sentences very short phrases, or include linking words and other details depending on ability level of group. Pupils note details in Spanish, then correct. You could do this activity before asking pupils to write their own description of someone. Speaking worksheet to be cut in half so opponent cannot see answers to the questions they will be asked - pupils take turns to ask each other the translations. You can make this into a game or quiz by seeing how quickly pupils can complete all translations orally correctly. Pupils can tick each line when their opponent gives an answer correctly, or you can create a rule that they have to go back to any previous answers they got wrong in order to move on etc.
Mi familia oral drill activities Spanish beginners
Eclaire13Eclaire13

Mi familia oral drill activities Spanish beginners

(0)
Repetitive oral drills to practise sentence structures for talking about family members - you can use the sentences to do oral translation - there are some in Spanish followed by some in English, in which pupils must use the vocab in previous sentences to help them. Then, there are questions pupils should answer orally using the vocab they have just practised. You could also use the first slide for listening tasks: say one of the green sentences in Spanish and pupils must point out which sentence you said. Or, don’t show the powerpoint, and read some of the sentences aloud for pupils to translate into English on scrap paper or miniboards. You could even do them as dictations if pupils aren’t yet able to translate - all good consolidation of the language.
