Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a maths-related word is revealed after completing calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a calculation and a letter. Students circle any boxes containing errors. Then they assemble letters from the circled boxes to reveal the hidden maths word. Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. (In the rounding puzzles students find the numbers that don’t round to specified target numbers and in some of the fractions puzzles, students must find non-equivalent fractions etc). In many puzzles there is an extension question / challenge linked to the hidden word, which in some cases may require a little research if time.
Students often forget or avoid checking their work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves.

KS2 well-differentiated Four-in-a-Row Game Boards and cards for consolidation of decimal place value understanding and ordering decimal numbers (1, 2 and 3 decimal places). Ideal for starters, warm ups, early finishers activities etc. Originally designed for Key Stage 2 Y5 and Y6 - or Second Level, Primary 6 and 7 in Scotland. PDF format. Full instructions included. Please check the previews to see if it is suitable.

DECIMAL NUMBERS FOUR IN A ROW:
• Two sets of 54 decimal number cards featuring numbers from 0.001 to 2.01 (1 set includes numbers up to 2 decimal places, the other up to 3 decimal places)
• Two A3 Four in a Row boards. The 1 star version was originally designed to go with the cards to 2 decimal places, while the more challenging 2 star version was designed for the cards to 3 decimal places. However, both sets of cards would work with either board. It works especially well in A3, however, you could scale down the board to A4 and use the smaller card set supplied.
You could have pairs take on other pairs. Each team of two starts with a set of cards (print each set on different coloured card if you don’t have coloured printing that would allow you to print the different coloured cards supplied, then laminate to use again and again). It works well if each team shuffles their cards, puts them in a pile and takes one from the top at a time, which they then put down on the board if there’s a suitable empty box. They aim to get four of their cards in a row. Each box has a stipulation about the numbers that can be placed on it (no tenths, < 1.5, > 0.31, < 0.56, five hundredths etc). To save printing you could split a set between 2 or 3 boards as a single team won’t require all 54 cards.
The cards can also be used separately from the game boards for ordering activities.

These are Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 5 and Year 6 (Y5 / Y6) place value printable activities for numbers up to 6 and 7 digit develop understanding of place value, while practising mental maths. There are 72 self-checking maths trails (36 up to 6 digit numbers and 36 up to 7 digit numbers) to make into reusable activity boards or simply print as worksheets (versions also included without the final answer). Ideal as main lesson tasks, starters, early finishers, home learning, homework and revision. PDF format. (In Scotland, this suits Second Level Maths, Primary 6 and 7.)
A fun activity that can be used as a competitive game or an individual challenge
Differentiation: In addition to there being 2 different levels here (up to 6 or 7 digits), the last 6 trails in each set (trails 31-36) are a little less challenging than the first 30, helping less able students to experience success without drawing attention to the level
Print as many A4 boards as you require (printing on card recommended), laminate for regular use and have students complete trails with whiteboard pens
Consider printing and/or laminating back-to-back to save resources
A5 worksheet versions of the trails (two trails per A4 page) are included with the answer removed, which you might want to use for classwork or homework without laminating
Separate final answer key versions included (for use with worksheet versions)
Full answer versions also included for speedy checking by student or teacher if required
Alternatively students could use a calculator to help them see where they have gone wrong.
Students love using these trails, fixing any errors for themselves. They could work in pairs or individually and choose whether to time themselves or race against their friends.
How do they work? The trails each feature 12 addition and subtraction calculations (practising a variety of vocabulary for the operations) to consolidate place value. A start and end number are printed on each card, so students can work from left to right down the rows, adding and subtracting different size numbers, until they reach the end, where they can check if they arrived at the correct final number.
These trails are available alongside other place value games and activities for large numbers and decimal numbers in a popular bundle:

Includes simple number match and mental maths versions. 2 sets of 6 boards for each of 0-40 and 0-100 – one set features the French number word, the other less challenging version features digits. Print and laminate as required. Both the 0-40 and 0-100 games also have two sets of bingo cards each – French mental maths versions or French number word versions. Great for differentiation - for a medium level of challenge you could have groups using the digit boards with the mental maths calculation cards.
FOUR IN A ROW:
6 French Maths Four in a Row game boards at 2 levels. Great starter, early finisher or group activities for both French and Maths lessons. Most questions can be answered using mental strategies. All four operations used.
4 different game boards for Maths involving numbers from 0 to 100 and generally more challenging Maths questions.
2 different game boards for Maths involving numbers from 0 to 40 with generally simpler Maths questions.
Full answer versions included for at-a-glance checking by students or teacher. BLACK AND WHITE versions of all boards included too.
Laminate and use again. Students work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row. Roll dice to find which column to choose a calculation from (the columns are numbered 1-6). If there are no questions left in the one they've rolled, skip a go or roll again. Use a different coloured whiteboard pen to record answers or add an initial or symbol if using the same colour. I recommend printing in A3 but it will work fine in A4 too.
For the four operations, I use:
plus - add
moins - minus
fois - times
divisé par - divided by

Each test features 20 calculations involving a variety of mathematical skills and knowledge. Alternatively, use the PDF versions.
At the end of each test, there follows the same 20 slides repeated, with the answer added clearly. Students can mark their own or a partner’s work to cut down on your workload. If short of time, you can whizz through the answers but each answer appearing with its question like this allows for important discussions about strategies.

Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) Y5 and Y6 perimeter games: 10 bingo / lotto game boards and 60 cards are included in this differentiated pack. There are 5 boards and 30 cards in two sets. ALL ANSWERS ARE INCLUDED. PDF format. In Scotland, this suits Second Level Maths, Primary 6 and 7.
Each child or pair has a board with 6 perimeter answers on it. The cards feature 2D shapes with the measurements of some sides marked on, which the children use to work out the perimeter. Children have a board each or per pair. I recommend having one perimeter shape card turned over at a time and all players working out if it matches the perimeter answer on their board.
Lower and higher ability versions both contain a variety of squares, rectangles, irregular quadrilaterals and triangles, while the two-star version also features compound shapes. The one-star version has more simple calculations to work out in metres. The two-star version includes decimal numbers and some conversion between centimetres and metres.
Answer cards are included for pupil self-checking or to help teachers assess. The cards can also be used separately from the bingo /lotto game, with individuals or pairs working out the perimeter and checking. They could perhaps time themselves to see how many they can correctly answer in 5 or 10 minutes. Or small groups could compete against each other to get the answer first, scoring a point if they manage it.
If you don’t need to use both versions at the same time, I recommend printing the boards back to back to save on card and laminating pouches. If using both sets of cards, I suggest printing them on different coloured card to help keep them separate.

PE, Numeracy and communication skills mix in this fun active relay fitness game for Primary (Key Stage 2, especially Year 4, 5 and 6). Great for outdoor learning or special events such as National Maths Week, to have children practising mental calculations in another curriculum area. Alternatively, use this activity as a warm up to add variety to your normal Physical Education programme. Good teamwork and communication should be encouraged as teammates help each other to work out the calculations and guide each other to the possible answer cards, while navigating around the hidden Exercise Cards (which force the team to divert onto a variety of athletic challenges!). 4 files are included: large versions of game boards and cards in PDF, small versions, plus editable exercise card files (both sizes - in PPT), in case you wish to add some of your own exercise ideas. Print and laminate the boards and cards you require. No equipment is necessary and the game can be played in a gym hall or outside space. Answer key included.
INSTRUCTIONS (Also included within the file):
Split students into up to 7 groups, giving each a calculation board.
Shuffle the number cards and as many exercise cards (12 included) as you wish, spreading them out face down at the other end of the playing area. You may wish to remove the answer cards for any board not in use.
Teams send one person at a time running to collect a card. On each go, students must only turn over one card. If they know it is not an answer to any calculations on their board, they replace it, or else they can bring it back to their team to check and the next team member can replace it if it is not required, before collecting another card.
If a player turns over an Exercise Card, they must bring it back to their group and the whole team must perform the stipulated exercises. When all members are finished the exercise, the next runner can set off for another card.
The winners are the first team to cover all their calculations with the correct answer cards.
There are two of each number card, as each answer features on two boards, helping to ensure a faster game. To speed up the game or to add an extra element, include as many Pass Cards as you like. If children turn over a Pass Card they can place it over any calculation they want, for instance if they are finding a calculation too difficult or if there is an answer card they are struggling to find. For differentiation, use mixed ability groups or else grant certain groups extra pass cards to cover more challenging calculations.
To ensure a smooth game, circulate with the answer key for at-a-glance checking. If groups have accidentally taken another group’s answer card, ensure they quickly replace it so as not to hamper the progress of other teams.
Thank you for your interest.
Fun mixed times table facts practice with 5 fun maths maze puzzle activities, ideal for Key Stage 2 (KS2). You could use them as early finisher challenges, warms ups, or homework tasks. No prep printable puzzles in PDF or make them digital with Easel. Includes answer keys.
CONTENTS:
3 more challenging mazes for mixed times tables practice (up to 12 times table)
2 less challenging mazes for mixed times tables practice (up to 10 times table)
Full answer keys
Please see the previews to check these will suit your students.
No prep required: Just print! Students use the answers to make a path through the maze. The correct pathway does not pass through all boxes.
Use again: You might want to laminate to use again and again, with students using a dry-wipe marker instead of a pencil or highlighter etc. They can easily erase if they go wrong.
Differentiation: There are mazes at two levels of challenge to suit different ages and abilities. Mazes work well for individuals, pairs or small groups. You might want to enlarge mazes for use by larger groups. The less challenging mazes go up to the 10 times table, while the more challenging mazes go up to the 12 times table. The less challenging mazes also have fewer paths.
Answer keys: You could print an answer key so you can quickly find students who have gone wrong and nudge them back on course! The mazes also promote self-correction as students retrace their steps to see where they have strayed from the correct path! You could display the answer key on the whiteboard at the end for self-checking.

Christmas Maths Puzzles
Christmas Literacy (SPaG) Puzzles
CHRISTMAS MATHS PUZZLES:
There are 3 Set A Numeracy puzzles that best suit Year 6 and 5 (P7 and P6) and 3 Set B puzzles originally designed for Year 4 (P5) - and Year 3 (P4) if all concepts have been covered. Both sets could be used in the same class for differentiation if required. Set A might also suit some early KS3 classes. They work well at the busy end of term as little preparation is required and they are very flexible and can be left aside and picked up again as required.
An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these Hidden Word / Spot the Mistakes puzzles make ideal starter, early finisher or homework activities for this special time of year. Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a Christmas-related word is revealed after completing mental arithmetic calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a calculation and a letter. Pupils circle any boxes containing mistakes. Then they assemble letters from the circled boxes to reveal the Christmas word. Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups.
Concepts include: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Times Tables, Doubling and Halving, Multiplying and Dividing by 10 and 100, Place Value, Negative Numbers, Fractions, Percentages and Decimals (Not all concepts feature in Set B).
LITERACY (EDITING / PROOFREADING PUZZLES:
KS2 Christmas Editing / Proofreading puzzles. Minimal preparation required (ideal for busy end of term), these 6 fun Literacy / English puzzle worksheets provide practice of a range of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) during late November and December. 3 puzzles were originally designed for Year 6 and 5 (P7 and P6) and 3 simpler ones for Year 3 and 4 (P4 and P5). Both sets could be used in the same class for differentiation if required. They could also be used for revision in early KS3. Versions are included with and without a festive background picture. All sentences are Christmas-themed.
These puzzles work in a similar way to the maths ones above, a Christmas-related word being revealed after completing the editing work. Each puzzle contains 20 lines of text (or 15 in the simpler ones). Pupils circle any mistakes they spot. If there are 3 or more mistakes in a single line, they highlight the corresponding letter in the grid at the bottom of the page. At the end they rearrange the highlighted letters to reveal the Christmas word. Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups, with pupils supporting each other and pooling their editing / proofreading skills.
Pupils often forget or avoid re-reading their own work to check for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting common spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves.
Some of the aspects of SPaG included: common spelling errors, full stops, capital letters, question marks, commas, colons, speech marks, proper nouns, missing words, repeated words, tenses, subordinate clauses and embedded clauses. (Not all concepts feature in the 3 simpler puzzles (Puzzles 4-6).

Key Stage 2 starter or warm up activities for Year 4, 5 and 6 maths lessons. This bundle contains 30 mental maths tests or quizzes on PowerPoint presentations for KS2 for regular use throughout the year. No prep! Ideal for differentiation, there are 15 tests at both of the two levels. Each test contains 20 question slides and 20 answer slides. You could use them as part of SATs preparation, as daily / weekly mental starter activities or as part of revision lessons.
**Contains: **
SET A: 15 Tests originally designed for Year 5 and 6
SET B: 15 Tests originally designed for Year 4 (and will suit some Year 3)
You could use a mixture of the two levels for differentiation in the same class. Please check the individual resource descriptions and previews to check if this will meet your needs.
Children enjoy trying to beat their previous best score. These informal tests are split across 6 PowerPoints and are designed to be shown on the whiteboard, with children recording answers in jotters or on paper. In each quiz there’s one question to a slide so children can focus on it for a few seconds before the next one comes up. The question slides are plain and uncluttered to minimise distractions. You can run the PowerPoint presentation on a timer if you wish - alternatively click it on yourself, perhaps allowing a little longer for more challenging questions. Each test features 20 calculations involving a variety of mathematical skills and knowledge.
At the end of each test, there follows the same 20 slides repeated, with the answer added clearly. Children can mark their own or a partner’s work to cut down on your workload. If short of time, you can whizz through the answers but each answer appearing with its question like this allows for important discussions about strategies.
Concepts include: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Times Tables, Doubling and Halving, Negative Numbers, Multiplying and Dividing by 10 and 100, Place Value, Decimals, Percentages, Fractions, Money, Measure (including Area and Perimeter, Time, Length), Angles.
Additional dollar versions of all 3 PowerPoints are included, where I have amended any questions involving pounds and pence to suit countries using dollars.

An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these no prep puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. They are similar to codebreaker puzzles, with a maths-related word to be revealed after completing the calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a decimals calculation and a letter. Students circle any boxes containing errors. Then they put together the letters from the remaining boxes to reveal a maths word. Students often forget or avoid checking their own work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking the calculations in these puzzles. Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves.
Well-differentiated Decimal Place Value Four-in-a-Row Game Boards and Cards: Use for consolidation of decimal place value understanding and ordering decimal numbers (1, 2 and 3 decimal places).
Includes:
Decimal Numbers to 1 Decimal Place Numeracy Treasure Hunt : An active printable mental maths team game, with differentiation, ideal as a whole class starter or plenary, especially when focusing on addition and subtraction of decimals or place value to tenths / one decimal place. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of decimals calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included, along with solutions.

Fun fast finisher activities and starter tasks! Designed for Upper KS2 Year 5 and Year 6 (Y5 and Y6), this is a BUNDLE of printable, well-differentiated Four in a Row Game Boards for starters, warm ups and early finisher activities in Maths / Numeracy lessons. Great for revision or consolidation of new concepts. Includes games for Area, Money, Doubles and Halves, Times Tables and Decimal Numbers (Place Value). In Scotland, suits Second Level Maths - Primary 6 and 7.
Expand your bank of Key Stage 2 games with this great value BUNDLE of easy-to-prepare, fun and strategic 4-in-a-rows. Most just require printing and laminating. I recommend printing in A3 but A4 would be okay too. You might need to quickly adjust printer settings with some of the files. Laminate games to use again and again, with children writing on the boards with a dry-wipe marker / whiteboard pen.
INSTRUCTIONS: Two children (or two pairs of children) take it in turns to write an answer in a box. Ideally they use a different colour whiteboard pen, however if this is not possible they could add an initial or symbol each time too. First to get 4 in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - is the winner. The games work especially well if students roll a dice to determine which column they should answer a question from. The columns are numbered 1-6. If the column is already completed, they could either miss a go or roll again.
You can find previews and more information about each resource that is included in this bundle if you click on them but here are some details:
CHANGE FOR £20
2 standard game boards and 2 lower ability boards. Children roll dice to find out which column they can do a calculation in and then must work out the change required for £20 for one of the items pictured and priced in that column. Children write on the change using different colour whiteboard pens or add their initials. All answers included.
DOUBLES AND HALVES
10 boards to consolidate doubling and halving of two and three digit numbers. Includes a one-star version of both the doubling and halving game for younger or lower ability pupils - sidebars are included, featuring all answers, which children can strike through when used. It’s also included without the answer sidebars in case your pupils don’t need this added support. This version focuses on lower 2-digit numbers and multiples of 10. Then there’s four different, more challenging versions of both the doubling and halving boards (two and three-star versions). All answers included. Play as the money game above.
AREA
3 differentiated boards: One-star version - area of rectangles, squares and right-angled triangles. No conversion required. Two-star version – as above but with more challenging calculations. Some conversion required between centimetres, metres etc. Includes decimal lengths and breadths. Three-star version - area of rectangles, squares, right-angled triangles and compound shapes. Some conversion required. Includes decimal lengths and breadths and more challenging calculations. Some of the compound shapes require children to work out the length of a side, using other given sides, before they can work out the area. Children will be able to do some of the calculations mentally but could use paper or mini whiteboards to work out the more challenging ones before writing in the answer on the grid.
TIMES TABLES
4 Times Table Boards in colour and black and white versions. All 4 available in LA supported versions (with answer sideboards), standard version (2-9 times tables) and in a version with 11 and 12 times tables added. Use whiteboard pens as in the games above.
DECIMAL PLACE VALUE
Consolidate place value to 2 or 3 decimal places. 2 differentiated boards: The 1 star board was originally designed to go with the cards to 2 decimal places, while the more challenging 2 star version was designed for the cards to 3 decimal places. However, both sets of cards would work with either board. For use with this game are two sets of 54 decimal number cards featuring numbers from 0.001 to 2.01 (1 set includes numbers up to 2 decimal places, the other up to 3 decimal places).
I hope these resources save you time and help your students learn in a fun way. Thank you so much if you are able to spare the time to review them on TES.
