German Greetings and Introductions Game

NO PREP printable board game and vocabulary card for oral practice of basic German greetings (Die Begrüßungen auf Deutsch), farewells and introducing yourself in German. This speaking review activity reinforces vocabulary such as Guten Tag (Hello), Guten Abend (Good evening), Auf Wiedersehen (Goodbye) and Bis bald (See you soon). Students will practise asking and answering questions such as Wie geht’s? (How are you?), Wie heißt du? (What’s your name?), Wie alt bist du? (How old are you?), and Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?). My German basics resources are made for students beginning German and near beginners in KS2 or early KS3 (Years 5, 6 and 7) and equivalents but they may suit others, depending on experience. Please check the preview file to assess suitability. Three slightly different versions of this game are included, with minor changes to a small number of phrases with locations in them. This is to better suit learners in US & Canada (Page 1 of the PDF), Australia and New Zealand (Page 2), and UK and Ireland (Page 3). All phrases used in the game feature on the vocabulary card so if you are not teaching in any of these countries, you will still be able to use the game. The vocabulary card can support younger, less experienced, or less able students. Brief instructions for students are printed on the board, together with fuller instructions on Page 5 of the PDF file. In turn, students roll a dice and move the appropriate number of spaces. They have to say aloud in German the word, phrase or question they land on, otherwise they return to the space they came from. You may wish to print the board in A3 for larger groups but it works well in A4 too. SAVE by purchasing this as part of my German Greetings and Introductions BUNDLE, along with these further 4 resource packs: German Greetings and Introductions Presentation and Activities German Greetings Worksheets German Greetings Games German Greetings Role-Play Cards Although I’m in the early days of adding German content, if you teach French too you might be interested to explore some of my French resources: Huge French Basics BUNDLE

French Dates Games

(1)
Beginners KS2 / KS3 (Year 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8) French speaking games (2 sets of 40-card loop games/ follow me cards / dominoes) for revision of French calendar (le calendrier) vocabulary - dates, months (les mois), days of the week (les jours), as well as numbers to 31.   My FSL / MFL French basics resources and units suit students beginning French, near beginners (and intermediate learners for revision) in: * Upper Primary (Key Stage 2) - Year 4, 5, 6 (Y4 Y5 Y6) * Secondary (Key Stage 3) - especially Year 7 and 8 (Y7 / Y8) * Equivalents such as Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Core French in Canada * May suit others, depending on experience   These resources will help you plan multiple lessons. Additional US format date versions are also now included. One set features the date and month, the other (which has different dates) also includes the day. This game works especially well as a fun activity to teach the difference between the two ways of answering the question Quelle est la date? (What is the date?), which depends on whether you are including the day: C'est samedi cinq avril C'est le cinq avril Another teaching point reinforced with this activity is the fact that days and months do not start with capital letters in French. Print and laminate the sets for repeated use. There is no start or end card in either set; they are continuous loops so you can start wherever you want. FRENCH MENTAL MATHS SETS: Combine mental maths agility with French number learning in this fun activity. The three sets cater for different ages, abilities and experiences of French. Includes: one 30-card set focusing on numbers to 40 one 30-card set focusing on numbers to 60 one 30 card set focusing on numbers to 100 There is no particular starting card as each loop is continuous but all sets do have ‘un’ (one) in them and you might want to start them here. Each set has a different coloured border but if not printing in colour you might want to print on different coloured card or paper so as not to mix them up when using more than one set. SIMPLE NUMBER MATCHING SETS: Again, you can start at any point in the loops. There’s one 30-card set for 0-40 and another for 0-100. Whether in whole class activities or group work, I hope your pupils enjoy using these. If you can spare a moment I would be grateful for a review. Many thanks. Beginners French KS2 / KS3 Halloween Vocabulary (L’Halloween) 80-slide PowerPoint lesson presentation and set of 23 flashcards. Featuring key words and phrases, plus games / activities for further practice, the presentation was made for beginners / near beginners in Year 4, 5, 6 and 7 and equivalents. There’s an additional PDF version, and a PDF containing the flashcards (2 to a page). Please check the previews to assess suitability. SAVE by purchasing this alongside my French Halloween Games and French Halloween Worksheets and Puzzles, in a good value FRENCH HALLOWEEN BUNDLE. POWERPOINT Includes cultural information about the fact that Halloween is not particularly celebrated in France and that French people are more likely to celebrate ‘La Toussaint’ on November 1st. Of course, French-speaking people elsewhere do celebrate Halloween so it’s a good chance to learn some fun vocabulary. The next few slides introduce more than 20 key words, one at a time, such as spider, black cat, broom, sweets, cemetery, bat, pumpkin, scarecrow, ghost, owl, moon, haunted house, monster, skeleton, witch, cauldron etc (in French of course). Following this, slides review these words, showing an image for students to give the word, with the answer appearing on the click of a mouse. Halloween-related French phrases are also taught, such as ‘I’m wearing a witch costume’ and ‘I’m scared’ and there are also slides teaching how to say ‘There are three black cats’ and ‘There are four spiders’ etc. There’s a slide with almost all key images on the screen for students to ‘splat’ with a fly swatter or equivalent (if displayed on a whiteboard) when the teacher calls out the words in French. NEWLY ADDED FOR 2019: There’s 2 rounds of an interactive Hexagons Game, where teams compete to make a trail of correct translations of Halloween vocabulary across the screen. Finally, the last 30+ slides form the memory game ‘Kim’s Game’, which could be played in teams, with students working out which images are missing each time and giving the word in French. The additional PDF version of the presentation will help those without PowerPoint access. It allows you to teach the vocabulary but does not retain the mouse-click interactivity of the original. The Hexagons Game also does not work without the interactivity and has therefore been omitted from the PDF version. FRENCH HALLOWEEN VOCABULARY Use this page to support students playing the games, if required. You can display it on a screen or print it. FOUR IN A ROW GAMES 4 different game boards. Print in colour or b&w and laminate as required. Works well in A3 for larger groups but A4 is good too. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Students roll dice, then choose a Halloween word from that number column and say it in French. If correct, use a dry-wipe marker to put a symbol or initial in that box, and so on. ‘I HAVE…WHO HAS?’ GAME 1 This game practises some of the key Halloween vocabulary in phrases alongside some numbers. Print and laminate the 30 illustrated cards, which form a continuous loop so you can start with any one. Distribute amongst players. First player reads the English language side of one of their cards and then all players check if they have the matching number of the correct item. If they do, they will read out both sides of their card. Students use ‘Qui a…?’ (‘Who has…?’) to ask the question each time. Instead of the usual ‘J’ai…’ (‘I have…’) for the other side of the cards, students could use the expression ‘Il y a…’ (‘There is… / there are…’). ‘I HAVE…WHO HAS?’ GAME 2 A 20-card word-only game, similar to the one above. It uses a wider pool of vocabulary but without the numbers. BINGO / TIC TAC TOE CARDS Use these 30 different cards for games of Bingo (the teacher could read out French Halloween words) or Tic Tac Toe / Noughts and Crosses, with students taking it in turns to say aloud a French Halloween word from their card. If cards are laminated, students could write on them with a dry-wipe marker. You might be interested in this Huge French Basics Bundle Thank you.
