Pop Music - Stand By Me Differentiated Scheme of Work and Instrumental Parts
A scheme of work and powerpoints to ensure students understand popular music and the key features as well as improving their ensemble performance.
Stand By Me is used as the prime example however this can also be mashed up with Just the Way You Are and Beautiful Girls.
Band parts for the following instruments are available and differentiated into multiple tasks: drum-kit, keyboard (riff and chords), ukulele, bass guitar, lyrics.
Sibelius files are also available so you can adapt the music to suit your needs.
This scheme of work can last up to 7 weeks and also includes the option of adding in the middle 8 or student’s composing their own.

Classical Music Listening Test
A music test based on classical music to test student’s understanding of musical language and identifying key features.
Answers and links to the pieces are provided.
Classical music - composition and performance
A series of 4 lessons based on Grieg’s ‘In the hall of the mountain king’, Stravinsky’s Firebord suite and Adams’ Short ride in a fast machine.
These pieces are used as a stimulus to perform sections of classical music and create compositions in the western classical genre. All resources are differentiated.
PowerPoints are also provided with differentiated tasks and push your thinking ideas.

A 10 week scheme of work which is fully differentiated. It focuses on 6 western classical composers and encourages students to perform famous motifs as well as using these pieces as a stimulus to compose their own pieces.
Glossaries and a end of unit listening test with answers is also available as well as a tracking sheet where students can keep a track of all tasks they have completed and at what level.

Who is responsible for the death of Eva Smith: An Inspector Calls differentiated worksheet
A simple but effective and ready to go worksheet to promote a group activity exploring who is responsible for the death of Eva Smith.
After splitting your class into 5 groups, ask students to create their argument for their character by finding further quotations to support their point and adding them to the structured grid.
Students can then share their ideas in a carousel style.

Act 5 Scene 3 double zoom ins
Lesson with worksheets and a PowerPoint for analysing the word choice in Romeo’s final soliloquy in Act 5 Scene 3. Students follow the instructions and zoom in to two words choices within each quotation. They should then discuss the combined or contrasting effect of these two word choices.

Using the examples as a guide, students come up with an A to Z of similes, metaphors, alliteration, oxymoron, personification. It works well as a home and away group activity.
