Suitable for any GCSE board (but based on the Eduqas specification). This resource is fully differentiated with grade and through the element of choice for the students and introduces them to the 3 main periods of Western classical music - Baroque, Classical and Romantic.
The learning journey can be used for at least 2 lessons (and as part of a homework task) and allows the teacher to be facilitator in the lesson as all resources and answers are attached.
The attached PP also encourages students to reflect on their progress and choose a task which suits this. Tasks include categorising the style of audio files, research orchestral instruments of the period, completing a glossary and annotating music scores. Each task allows students to get fresh composition ideas and add to their notes for revision.
A series of 3 lessons which focus on the key aspects (textures and other musical features) which can be found in Baroque and Classical Music. There is an element of theoretical knowledge and then putting these ideas into practice through composition. The final lesson asks students to react to feedback for either the Baroque or Classical style they have composed. All tasks are differentiated with success criteria and worksheets are attached so students can save their notes for composition and revision.

On the worksheet I made 40 pairs of quotations from the Power and Conflict poems. There is an even spread of key quotes from across the 18 poems.
To revise making discriminating links, students need to explain how the 2 quotations present ideas about power and conflict in a similar and different way.
Example of how to turn the pairs of quotations into a comparison:
Both Ozymandias and My Last Duchess portray characters with the power to issue commands to explore the corrosive nature of power. In Ozymandias the ‘sneer of cold command’ suggests the statue has a cruel condescending attitude to his subjects. However, in ‘My Last Duchess’ the speaker ‘gave commands’ to arrange for the execution of his wife to reflect his controlling nature.
A simple but engaging revision game to revise 10 key quotations from each scene. Start and scene 1 and roll the dice. The students can advance if they can analyse the quotation they land on. You can differentiate it easily by asking for two inferences per quotation and asking for links to specific A0s.
Dice not included.
