Look (again) at the list of UN Children’s Rights. Discuss whether or not children feel they have all their rights and explain how various people and organisations can help achieve them if not. Learn some words and phrases in link school’s language (or Swahili).

Discuss the reasons why linking with a school in Africa is important & emphasise its importance in helping to fulfil the Millennium Development Goals. Chn tackle a CAFOD activity to act as advisers to an aid agency distributing funds to suitable projects.

Reflect back on ‘Right to health and MDGs. Investigate how far children think their rights and the MDGs related to health are being met. Present a MDG in an interesting way.

HIV: Kishe’s Story
Return to MDG 6, and focus on HIV and AIDS. Children read a story of a young orphan, Kishe, and reflect on her life story and the wider impact of HIV across generations.

Children present through poetry, role play, song or dance, an action that can be taken to prevent malaria.

Children research what are key health issues for their own class. Focus on accidents and how they can be prevented. Understand concept of preventable and how children can play an important role in prevention

Look at case studies from different African countries and using the healthy box discuss what things are missing from the healthy box, which explains diffs between the UK & Africa. Children share their case studies and key points. A focus on children’s health.

Discuss African proverbs about health and their meanings. Children design their own posters or prepare a drama /freeze frame to show meaning of healthy proverb. Compare to healthy proverbs/sayings in the UK?

Use the life chances game to explore how your chances of being healthy and living a long life, depend upon where you live in the world. A focus on Africa.

Tap Into Life
Time to celebrate water! Children use the Oxfam online water photo-montage and Water Literate’s ‘Tap Into Life’ poem set to their provided music, to both prepare a performance and write their own celebratory poems with percussive backgrounds.

Meet Amina In Malawi
Dramatic changes to people’s lives occur when access to clean, safe water and latrine facilities are brought to a community. Children discuss ‘The Long Walk Is Over’ and read Amina’s story. They make ‘before and ‘after’ diary entries for her, expressing this change.

Can You Carry It?
How hard can it be to carry water? Children find out the facts and discuss images of different ways of carrying water before trying themselves. Through activities on the playground children experience that water is heavy and challenging to carry over distances.

Children and Water
Using an informative and clear leaflet downloaded from WaterAid, children read and discuss how children in parts of Africa are affected by lack of clean water and sanitation. Facts are collected before creating own posters and leaflets entitled ‘Children and Water’.

Cholera Case Study
Through following a case study in Benue State, Nigeria, children learn about cholera. They plan and write a script for a video campaign to highlight and educate people about cholera, finally taking turns to use a camera to film their short cholera campaign videos.

Campaign for Clean, Safe Water
Watch campaign films that educate people about the dirty water crisis in Africa. Children consider the hard-hitting facts learned and record how this makes them feel. Discuss what makes these films effective, in preparation for planning own films in the next session.

No Magic Tap
Find out about children’s experience of water all around the world using Oxfam’s Our World Of Water and compare with life in the UK. In a similar style to the book, children create a ‘scrapbook’ page comparing their lives with Khadija or Gamuchu from Africa.

One Well
Imagine that all the water on Earth came from one well! Children learn that the amount of water on our planet never changes and that we are all connected by the way we draw water from the same source. Children then convey this understanding through poetry.

Plant growth
Children receive a letter requesting help from the Native Nursery. Children must design and set up experiments to find the best conditions for growing seeds. They will monitor progress and report their findings in Session F.

Water cycle
Children explain how evaporation and condensation are involved in the water cycle and describe all the water cycle processes. Identify the different forms of water that are seen in various weather conditions and the different clouds that are seen in our skies.
