Ukraine-Russia War 2022 Reading Comprehension and Worksheets -Updated:April 2024

As a teacher, I understand how difficult it can be to teach complex topics like the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. That’s why I created this reading comprehension activity to help students gain a better understanding of the current situation. The activity includes a 5-page reading passage that summarizes the key events and players involved in the conflict. The passage covers everything from the initial protests in 2014, to Russia’s annexation of Crimea, to the ongoing fighting in Ukraine and international response to the conflict. The passage is written in clear and concise language, making it accessible to students at a range of reading levels. In addition to the reading passage, the activity includes two blank map activities that help students understand the geographical context of the conflict. The first map activity asks students to locate key cities and regions mentioned in the reading passage, while the second map activity asks students to identify NATO member states and their proximity to Ukraine. These activities not only reinforce students’ understanding of the conflict but also help develop their geography skills. The activity also includes a word bank and worksheets with questions in short answer, multiple choice, and true or false formats. The questions are designed to test students’ comprehension of the reading passage and help them develop critical thinking skills. Of course, answer key is also included. I also added Poster and Bulletin Board of Russia and Ukraine. Overall, this reading comprehension activity is an ideal resource for teachers looking to provide their students with a comprehensive and engaging lesson on the ongoing conflict. The activity is suitable for a range of grade levels and can be used as a standalone lesson or as part of a larger unit on current events or world geography. This product offers a comprehensive overview of the Kosovo Conflict, including the causes, major events, and consequences of the conflict. These materials include a PowerPoint presentation with 31 slides, editable review activity, blank map of Kosovo, and 10 page topic summary to help your students gain a deep understanding of this complex and often misunderstood period of history. I am convinced this will be more than enough to help you and your students get broader picture of Kosovo-Serbian war in the late 1990s, the conflict that was very well publicized in the US media, mainly because Kosovo fight for independence was always strongly supported from the United States government. Also with these resources, you can engage your students in critical thinking and analysis, and provide them with a nuanced understanding of the conflict and its ongoing impact. Table of Contents What was the Kosovo conflict? Background of the Conflict Kosovo on the Map The Rising Tensions Kosovo Liberation Army The War NATO bombing of Yugoslavia Kumanovo Agreement Ethnic Cleansing Post-war crimes War Casualties Kosovo in the 21st century You might also like: Rwandan, Armenian, Cambodian and Bosnian Genocide - Reading Comprehension Bundle https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/resource-12835720 Yugoslav (Balkan) wars of the 1990s - Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, Serbia https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/resource-12773476 Break up of Yugoslavia and Ethnic Cleansing in Bosnia - Reading Comprehension https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/resource-12809835 As someone who studied** Balkan history and Balkan conflicts**, I’ve designed few presentations on that topic, as I found out that many teachers have struggles to cover this topic because of its complexity. That’s why I tried to summarize all relevant events, in chronological order, selecting high resolution photos, charts and maps, in order to help you and your student understand background of the wars, its impact on civilians (war crimes, refugees, ethnic cleansing) and all other important details. Every presentation contains additional resources: Word document (6-10 pages) with detail explanation of all relevant events and key figures, that can help teachers/researches build up their knowledge about these historical events, saving them days of researching. Editable Review Activity with questions you can use to review students knowledge after a unit, as a resource for discussion, homework assignment or simply a guide for students to organize information covered in the presentation. Answer Key. Blank Historical Map for each country.
