GCSE to A Level Transition: Key Skills - Analysing Quotes: Where to Begin ...

The academic jump between GCSE and A level is significant. Often there isn’t a transition program or materials in place, and some students struggle. I have created an ever-growing set of materials to compensate for this skill’s gap and students have found these materials incredibly helpful. I have used these materials after students have completed their GCSEs and indicated that they are planning to move onto ‘A’ level, as homework assignments and even as tools of revision. All have worked well for the students. This power point lesson focuses on ´Where to begin when analysing quotes´ – this is an essential skill. Through a series of structured exercises: the students learn how to interpret and comment on quotes, and adopt this skill into their academic writing. Colourful and interactive, I have received good feedback on this lesson. This is a complete resource. Enjoy.

William Shakespeare’s tragedy ‘Hamlet’ remains a celebrated text, still being performed worldwide on-stage and also enjoying a number of reimaged film versions. In our post-modern world of ‘false news’, ‘conspiracies’, ‘social media revenge’ and ‘corrupted politics’, Hamlet remains an essential text. I have taught this text a number of times and have used this specific (revised) resource to lead my teaching in class, as a distance learning material (Google Meet lessons), as a homework assignment and even as a tool of revision – all have worked well for the students. This beautifully illustrated 14 slide PowerPoint lesson explores the characterisation of Claudius from a number of different perspectives. This dynamic lesson provides a number of short debate topics (encouraging the students to exchange ideas) and a number of structured written tasks. The study materials contained within this PowerPoint lesson provide approximately 2 hours teaching time in class. This is a complete resource with no additional work required from the teacher, enjoy!
