A Christmas Carol - Creative Writing Booklet
This booklet involves ten steps from building a word bank to editing, using a description from A Christmas Carol as a model. This could work as an independent activity, whole class, homework booklet or home learning. Students work through different steps allowing them to think about atmosphere, effect on the reader, vocabulary, figurative language and sentence structure. Alongside the Dickens model are other examples for inspiration. An opportunity for peer review is also included.

Classic Poetry Reading Activity and Comprehension
This activity includes 10 Classic Poems by familiar writers such as Lewis Carroll, Rudyard Kipling, and Hilaire Belloc. Each poem has a Skim and Scan activity to aid rapid word location. Additionally, there is a selection of Poetry questions that can be used with one or more of the poems to deepen poetry analysis skills and general reading comprehension.
Remembrance Day - Reading Activity
Using ‘In Flanders Field’, this worksheet includes a skim and scan activity to encourage rapid word location; questions on vocabulary and punctuation; poetry analysis. Could be used as a guided reading activity or as part of a lesson on Remembrance Day.
Guy Fawkes Reading Activity
A fictional last confession from Guy Fawkes, the night before his execution. (This could be used as a model). Students have a skim and scan activity, encouraging a quick response to locating words within the text. This is followed by a series of vocabulary and language questions, similar to SATs style reading questions.
Victorian Gothic Reading Activities
This resource includes excerpts from 6 Victorian Gothic novels. Each excerpt includes a Skim and Scan activity encouraging students to develop strategies for locating specific words within the text. Additionally, each excerpt has extension activities, requiring students to engage at a deeper level with the text and its Gothic techniques.
This booklet is aimed at students studying Gothic Literature and allows for an immersion in the Victorian Gothic. However, this could also be suitable for higher ability students from UKS2.

Each sheet has a section of text followed by words to locate. Children can complete the task independently or as a timed activity.
KS2 SPaG Bundle
Included here is a powerpoint presentation with a range of whole class SPaG activities covering: punctuation, modal verbs, adverbs, speech, clauses, word classes, sentence function and synonyms. The accompanying word document includes optional independent, differentiated activities. This has been themed around The Railway Children but is easily edited.
Visual Vocab Starters
