B7 6 mark questions (New OCR 21st C)
A few possible questions. I printed these on to A3 paper with the right hand side blank for planning answers e.g. writing keywords and analysis of the question.
There is also a poor quality exemplar answer which the students can analyse and try to improve on.
Sorry, no mark schemes.
Can be done in groups, pairs or individually.
Acids and alkalis review crossword
Made for my Year 8s to review their Year 7 work on acids and alkalis at the start of the Year 8 topic. Also includes a couple of clues relating to reactivity series which they had done in previous topic.
Ecology keywords wordsearch with clues
Wordsearch activity designed for Y9 iGCSE (edexcel) ecology, but could could also be used for KS3 and other exam boards. It’s easy to adapt if you want to tweak the definitions.
Comes with answers.
Students can either find words first and write them in the box, then match up with definitions. Or do the other way around, or maybe a combination of both.
New OCR AS Biology A end of topic test on biological membranes
An end of topic test for OCR 2.1.5 Biological membranes.
Uploaded August 2015 so hasn't been tested out on students yet. Let me know if you see any errors or problems.
Cells 'Learning Mat' (overview of KS3 Cells topic)
Here's an idea from uni I've played with. A colourful powerpoint slide that can be printed off on to A4 to be given to pupils at the start of the new KS3 Year 7 Cells topic.
There's a list of keywords, an overview of the topic and diagram they can have a go at labelling plus a space to put their target level.
Feedback and ideas welcome. I've got a few more to upload too.
AQA AS / Year 12 Biology quiz

C1 Revision crossword
For 21st Century Science - Air Quality
Includes combustion and pollution.
Aimed more towards higher level foundation pupils.
OCR Gateway B2 revision loop the loop game
Includes ecology, evolution, variation, grouping organisms etc. Watch out for the (un)funny joke!
KS3 Digestion and nutrition revision cards
Students struggle to revise well so I thought I’d make a template for them to make some revision cards. Not particularly revolutionary but if it saves you a job it’s worth it!
Also has some photos of example revision cards on the second page.
Print out for them on card (or get them to do it themselves on paper) and they follow the cues at the top of each card to help them revise all the relevant information.
Once they’ve done this a couple of times they should then hopefully get better at making their own revision resources.
Help with graphs (battleships)
A few slides from a lesson I do with lower ability year 7's to help them plot graphs.
The first slide is used to illustrate using the battleships game concept in order to get the idea of counting numbers across and then up.
They'll need some 1cm square paper for this and then graph paper for moving on to other graphs.
Socrative Quiz - C4 Add Sci Ideas in Context 2012
Quiz number for a quick multiple choice quiz useful for lower sets preparing for the 2012 Additional Science Ideas in Context (Dangers and Delights of chlorine and bromine).
If you don't know what Socrative is then have a look at this TES page: http://www.tes.co.uk/article.aspx?storyCode=6193929
Synoptic enzymes revision mat
A template poster / revision mat for pulling together all mentions of enzymes from B1, B4 and B7 plus a bit of protein sysnthesis (old OCR Triple Biology A specification)
Scientists Protecting the public revision (OCR A4)
Key ideas match up activity (descriptions with pictures) for lower ability classes. Eg colorimeter, light microscope, chromatography.
Could then be followed by the cloze worksheet (answers provided).
It doesn't cover everything in A4 in detail but could be useful part of a revision lesson.
Invertebrates and Vertebrates review quiz (Microsoft Forms)
Designed as a review quiz which could be done for homework or in class (on own devices or in an IT room). I have a feeling you can only access and edit if you have a Microsoft account though.
Use the image with your QR reader or copy the link below.

A Level Biology maths skills checklist
Upload this to Google Drive or similar, convert into 'sheets' and then share the link with your students, checking you have ticked the 'allow edit' box.
They then go online and red, amber, green each of the skills to give you and them an idea of any gaps in knowledge and trouble spots. It could also be used to highlight 'experts' on a particular skill. The document saves automatically and can be locked, or reviewed again at a later date.
Possible drawback, depending on your point of view, is that they can see each other's self-assessment.
I've also made a similar one based on the content in the specification, but it was based on a pixl sheet. I'm sure you could do something similar!
Healthy diet / nutrients research grid
Students research details about the 7 nutrients and a few specific vitamins and minerals. I did it with top set Year 9s doing edexcel iGCSE. The grey boxes don’t need filling in.
Answer sheet included.
Human eye colouring sheets, diagrams and worksheets
Includes line drawings that can be used for colouring in the structure of the eye, including an outline font so this can be coloured in the same colour as each eye structure. 2 different versions of labelling activities are included plus a sheets for labelling and then describing the function of each part (with answers).
There are also activities with diagrams to help understand accommodation on near and far objects, correction lenses and links to useful Scientific Eye video clips.
I have included a pdf in case the fonts do not open correctly in powerpoint. But do let me know if you have difficulties.
There is also some information about the requirements for each exam board.
*Freeware font from Jess Latham, Blue Vinyl Fonts
Blood - components and functions
Powerpoint and hand out for students to fill in about the components of the blood, functions and a bit about blood donation for extension.
Originally produced for teaching edexcel iGCSE but fully editable for use with all exam boards. Includes a link to a kahoot quiz.
Skeleton movement and joints revision mat
Revision mat template for skeleton movement and joints.
You may want to edit the ‘5 functions’ of the skeleton depending on what you’ve taught previously.
We include: movement, making blood cells, protection, shape and support, and storage of minerals.
A Level Biology Assessment objectives
Here’s a poster, best printed A3, to help your students remember that there’s more to passing the exams than just recall of facts. You could also print smaller copies for their files etc.
Original powerpoint file also included in case you want to edit it.
