This unit has been developed to raise awareness of energy wastage at home and in school.The unit is split into three sections. 1. Huddling penguins – to develop pupils’ investigative skills while learning about how animals adapt to their environment. 2. Energy from fuels – looking at different forms of renewable and non-renewable energy. Pupils carry out an investigation to find which fuel produces the most energy. 3. Conservation of energy – looking at how we waste energy in the school and at home and pupils investigate ways of conserving energy.

A unit of work to support understanding of the section on World Trade in the WJEC GCSE Geography (A) specification. Some activities will develop and reinforce mathematical knowledge and vocabulary. Pupils will have opportunities to sort and classify. The final screen teaches pupils the rhyme Young Macpherson had a zoo, which is sung to the tune of Old MacDonald. A number of worksheets are also provided to reinforce the whiteboard activities.

Dafydd Drops a Goal is a poem about rugby. It tells of a young boy dropped to the substitutes' bench during an important cup match. He comes on to play during the dying minutes of the game and saves it with a drop goal. The unit was specifically written to provide pupils, particularly boys, with some challenging material that would perhaps change their attitude towards poetry. Ideal for years 5 and 6.
