The aim of the lesson is to introduce students to a variety of different materials. Students will examine a number of common hardwoods, softwoods, manufactured boards, plastics, metals and compliant materials such as card. Students studying a resistant materials course will be expected to have a knowledge of woods, manufactured boards, metals and plastics whereas students choosing a product design course will study compliant materials such as card and paper in combination with one or two other resistant materials such as metal, woods or plastics.

This activity provides opportunities for exploring graphical notation. Although written recording of music is not a current requirement of the primary curriculum, recent school inspections in Wales have referred to the need for schools to explore the process.

The contrasting effects of hurricanes in the Caribbean are investigated using a variety of resources including numerical data, photos, aerial images, newspaper articles, interactive ICT, animations and posters. An animation shows the spelling of words with long i, o and u vowel sounds. Pupils see 3 different graphemic representations (spellings) of these vowel sounds. Pupils are asked to make words using the Wordmaker machine. If the answer is correct the word is spoken and a picture appears. Suitable for older pupils with SEN.

This application allows pupils to practice basic number operations through a series of easy to use mental maths operations. There are exercises on three levels; beginner, intermediate and expert, covering the four basic number operations together with exercises on multiplication and division by powers of 10. Each test asks ten questions on the selected topic and the pupil is provided with instant feedback as each answer is submitted. The pupil’s mark is recorded in the database to allow progress to be monitored. A traffic light form allows easy monitoring of pupil’s progress.
