These PowerPoints will allow you to teach students the GCSE 9-1 Chemistry required content on the reactions of acids with metals, metal oxides, metal hydroxides and metal carbonates. Two full lesson PowerPoints are provided:
Reactions of Acids
Introduces the key rules for acid reactions and deals primarily with word equations, though there are some opportunities for balanced equation practice in the final task.
Acid reactions and Balanced Equations
This lesson builds upon the rules learned in lesson 1, while recalling formulae and skills learned in previous lessons, so that students learn to write balanced equations for acid reactions with minimal provided.
A homework sheet (plus mark-scheme) is then included for students to practise what they learn across the two lessons.
The resources are easy to follow for teachers, readily accessible for students and are appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers.
Other GCSE lessons (including others from the Acids and Alkalis topic) are available from my shop. They can be purchased individually or, alongside this lesson, as part of a whole-topic bundle.
This PowerPoint allows two lessons to be taught in which students burn foods to determine their relative energy contents, then answer (and mark) in-depth analysis questions about the experiment. The format of the lesson is designed to begin embedding core practical analysis skills at an early age.
The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers.
This package also includes an overview and equipment list for the entire 7I Energy topic, which is available from my shop.
An ideal home learning resource; these revision cards cover all the “learnable” Chemistry Paper 1 content.
The cards come as an editable PowerPoint, with six cards per slide for students to cut out. There are eight slides (48 cards) for Combined students and ten slides (58 cards) for Triple students. The cards that are Higher only are indicated, so Foundation students can discard these.
As students memorise the content of each card, they should be able to recall the information when prompted by a revision partner. As information becomes embedded, cards can be removed so the pile focuses on a smaller number of trickier concepts.
Please note: these cards are designed to supplement NOT substitute for other revision. If all the material on these cards is memorised, it will give students a solid platform from which to achieve a very good grade. However, these cards are not sufficient to fully prepare students for the chemical calculations topics (only practice can prepare for this) or the technical aspects of the Core Practicals (practical experience is needed for this)
Full Lesson PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Biology lesson on Energy Transfers through trophic levels, and why that energy transfer is rarely an efficient process. The resource is easy to follow for teachers, readily accessible for students and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE CLASSES ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers.
Full lesson PowerPoint (with suggested practical activities) sufficient to teach a broad range of abilities about current and voltage in electrical circuits. The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers.
In theory, this should be one lesson re-capping Year 7 knowledge on how voltage and current are measured and how they behave differently in series and parallel circuits. In practice, many students are not great at building or understanding circuits as they have had limited practice at it, so they struggle in Years 10 and 11. The aim of this double lesson (plus my follow-up lesson on resistance) is therefore to recap and extend Year 7 Electricity, while giving extended practice at building circuits and focusing on accurately connecting ammeters and voltmeters. Hopefully this will leave students better prepared for GCSE Physics.
Full Lesson PowerPoints sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Biology lesson on Specialised Cells. This package contains two versions of the same lesson; one contains a suggested practical activity while the second focuses on independent note-taking as a key skill for GCSEs. Both resources are easy to follow for teachers, readily accessible for students and are appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers.
This bundle meets all specification points needed to teach Topic 14 “Quantitative Analysis” from the Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Chemistry course (Triple Science only unit). The Core Practical itself is not covered (Edexcel supply work-sheets and a lab-book for this that I cannot reproduce), though the titrations lesson covers the background learning needed for it.
The bundle includes three full lesson PowerPoints covering five topics from the Edexcel textbook, plus my overview and equipment lists for all Year 10 and Year 11 Combined & Triple Science.
I have many other GCSE lessons and bundles available so please check out my shop, OnSpecScience.
