Year 3/4 Great at Grammar - Autumn Term Pack - newly updated to meet the demands of the New National Curriculum.
We are pleased to announce that this resource has been updated to meet the demands of the new National Curriculum with the objective listed at the top of each activity.
With the introduction of the new National Curriculum it is vitally important that grammar is taught throughout the school and is an integral part of the curriculum.
This pack comes with 12 weeks of activities with five activities per week. These include activities which are linked to all aspects of the new grammar National Curriculum. At the top of each slide the learning objective from the National Curriculum is shown. There are also activities from the Year 1/2 National Curriculum which will serve as useful revision to the children.
Each activity is only designed to take 5 minutes which means these activites are perfect to complete first thing in the morning or straight after lunch. Built up over the term the children will become grammar experts!
These activities are aimed at children in years 3/4 and can be completed on paper or in books.
These activities are provided in both PDF and PowerPoint format so they can be displayed on a whiteboard or printed out. Each page is decorated with a playful Clipart image thanks to our license with Clipart.com
This pack includes guided reading plans for the following text:
Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce (Years 5/6)
In total there are 18 guided reading lesson plans, covering each of the sections in the book. Each plan contains a 'reading and responding to the text' activity which is designed to be completed with the class teacher with the reading group. There are then follow up independent activities which the children can then complete during the remainder of the week. All of these activities are closely linked to the new National Curriculum objectives and these are listed at the beginning of each plan.
Each plan also has a list of difficult words which the children can check the meaning of before the teacher led session, space to list the names of the children who are working on the text and a space for a teacher notes and evaluation. The plans have been written by an experienced primary school teacher and have been tried and tested in the classroom.

A great resource to help children improve their writing. Included in this bumper pack are the connectives, sentence starter, punctuation and ambitious vocabulary dice. These A4 nets can be printed out and folded up to create dice to help improve the standard of writing in a classroom . With the introduction of the new spelling, grammar and punctuation test at the end of KS1 and the new National Curriculum our spelling resource is an absolute essential.
This pack comes with 12 weeks of activities with a set of spelling words and three activities per week.The resource is organised around the new National Curriculum and includes:
Weeks 1,3,5,7,9 and 11
10 spelling words to learn based on a spelling pattern or sound as recommended in the new National Curriculum (Year 1 program of study).
Activity 1 - 10 sentences with missing words. Children to write out the sentences including the correct spelling word. (for less able children the sentence could be read out loud with the children writing the missing word)
Activity 2 - Anagrams. The spelling words have been scrambled up and the children need to unscramble and then write out correctly.
Activity 3 - Wordsearch. The spelling words are hidden in a wordsearch and the children need to find them.
Weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12

Activity 1 - Definitions. Children need to match the correct spelling word with the correct definition.
Activity 2 - Missing vowels. The spelling words are jumbled up and the children need to add the missing vowels to correctly spell each word. Once completed they have to write them out in alphabetical order.
Activity 3 - Sentence writing challenge. A visual prompt is given and the children need to write sentences with the spelling words included. If the less able find this task too difficult then there are suggestions of alternative activities in the notes section of the PowerPoint presentation (not on PDF)
Each activity is designed to take between 10 and 30 minutes and can either be built into the curriculum or given as homework activities.

A great revision resource for Year 6 pupils.
There are two test papers included within this pack
1) An arithmetic paper presented in the same style as the Year 6 SATs paper. This contains 36 questions covering a range of topics from the KS2 curriculum
2) An arithmetic paper but with the questions presented in word problems. The numbers are the same as in test paper 1 but the questions are presented in a word problem format to help encourage and develop reasoning skills.
The answers to the 36 questions are provided at the end of the paper. This could be given to pupils in timed conditions or alternatively children could work in pairs or small groups to help aid revision. The questions are in a similar format to the KS2 test in May with questions starting off easy and progressively getting harder.
