In this lesson students will work towards the objective: use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky. They will first learn about how our understanding of day and night has changed over time before understanding the science behind the suns ‘apparent’ movement across the sky. They will also learn how sundials work before explaining what they have learnt on the activity sheet. They will then learn about the seasons and the science behind the concentration of the sun’s energy on the Earth’s surface. They will be taught how this links to time zones and again will explain their understanding through the activity sheet. The engaging presentation- with links to online video clips and the activity sheets are all provided. A knowledge organiser for Earth & Space is also included. Science- Properties and Changes of materials- Separating Mixtures- Year 5

(1)
In this lesson, students will learn that a mixture is a combination of two or more substances that aren’t chemically joined and can be separated back into their individual substances. They will learn that there are two types of mixtures: heterogeneous and homogeneous and will look at examples of each. They will then look at how these mixtures can be separated before completing a quiz on what they have learnt. Following this, they will carry out 3 investigations of separating mixtures. They will follow the experiment proforma to help them organise, record and analyse their observations before discussing their experiments as a class. Electricity is a type of energy that can build up in one place or flow from one place to another. Electricity is the flow of electrons. In this lesson, students will learn what electricity is and how it is measured. They will learn about electrical circuits- looking at the symbols for electrical components as well as how to draw circuits. They will design and construct circuits both manually and using online platforms, as well as repairing circuits which have problems. By the end of the lesson, students will understand how an electrical current travels around a circuit and how electrical components work. This lesson is 1/5 on Electricity. In this lesson, students will learn that there are two types of reproduction in plants: sexual and asexual. They will learn about the life cycle of plants that reproduce sexually looking at pollination, fertilisation, seed dispersal and germination. They will also learn the different parts of flowering plants and will dissect a flowering plant using the guide to help them. They will then look at asexual reproduction in plants through tubers, runners and bulbs. They will consider the advantages and disadvantages with both. They will be quizzed throughout the lesson for retrieval and will then complete an activity sheet which will question their understanding. A knowledge organiser for the unit is included. This lesson is 1/5 on Living Things and Their Habitats, Year 5. To view the other lessons, please visit: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/ResourcesForYou/Primary science

In this lesson, students will look at what the properties of materials are e.g. hard, waterproof, reflective, electronically conductive. They will watch an engaging video displaying this and will carry out their own tests on various materials following the experiment sheet. A list of equipment required is detailed as well as example experiments that can be used to test the various materials for their properties. They will record their observations and then look at what materials would be best to suit certain properties suggested. This lesson is one of 6 lessons on Properties and Changes of Materials. (0)
In this lesson, students will look at examples of reversible physical changes and irreversible chemical changes involving reactants and products. They will categorise different changes accordingly and will learn what indicators to look for to determine whether something is an irreversible change. Using the experiment proforma sheet, they will carry out four different irreversible change experiments and will discuss their observations before being given scientific explanations for each. Finally, they will carry out a quiz on what they have learnt. This lesson is one of 6 lessons on Properties and Changes of Materials. ResourcesForYouResourcesForYou

Science- Forces- Gravity Year 5/6

(1)
Gravity or gravitation, is a natural phenomenon by which all things with mass or energy, including planets, stars, galaxies, and even light are brought toward (or gravitate toward) one another. In this lesson, students will be taught what gravity is and how it affects us and how it is different in space. They will learn about Sir Isaac Newton and how weight is different to mass. They will then carry out two experiments- in the first experiment they will measure objects with scales and a newton meter in order to show the difference between weight and mass. After this, they will compare the mass and speed of falling objects to investigate whether the heavier an object, the faster it falls. Both investigations come with a worksheet to follow. This lesson is 1/6 lessons on Forces.
