A 15 slide full lesson presentation to develop students’ nonfiction writing skills. The lesson references the new AQA English Language exam and includes a markscheme for Paper 2, Section B although the resource could very easily be adapted to suit all specifications. The theme of the lesson is ‘reality TV’ to engage students with the task of non-fiction writing for a specific audience. The lesson includes a number of engaging activities including: individual and collaborative work, assessment opportunities and intervention and extension opportunities.

A 50 slide presentation of 4 lessons designed to introduce and consolidate approaches to the unseen poetry section of the English Literature exam. The lessons link to the new AQA specification but could easily be adapted to suit other specifications. Each lesson contains a wide variety of activities including individual and group work, assessment opportunities and model answers. Lesson 1 - introduction to unseen poetry working through an analysis of 'Hard Frost' by Andrew John Young. Lesson 2 - unseen analysis of 'Nettles' by Vernon Scannell. Lesson 3 - unseen analysis of 'In the Orchard After Midnight' by Brian Patten focusing on mood and tone. Lesson 4 - introduction to comparing unseen poems for the final question on Paper 2 of the English Literature exam. Lessons 3 and 4 can be used in conjunction with the AQA unseen poetry resource booklet which can be found on the AQA website. I have only included the first stanza of each poem due to copyright reasons but have included clear links as to where you can access the rest of the poem within the presentation.

A revision resource to help students consolidate and retain key information about the 15 poems in the ‘Power and Conflict’ anthology for the new AQA English Literature specification (first exams in 2017). There is a slide for each poem with four questions/statements designed to get the students recalling and applying their knowledge of the poems. The resource can be used in a number of ways: 15 separate lesson starter slides Print and use as a revision booklet Use for group work/speed dating tasks with students feeding back their ideas about the poems to the rest of the class. The slides follow a common format in order for students to get used to the revision approach.

My students have struggled to get to grips with the structure question (question 3) on the new Paper 1, Section A exam for AQA. I recently attended an AQA support meeting and planned this lesson to incorporate some of the exam board's messages with regards to teaching the structure question. My students produced mucher better responses to question 3 after I went through this lesson with them. The lesson is focused on the opening of '1984' and includes 15 slides plus a copy of the extract to use with students.
