Full lessons that teach all the content from AQA specification 3.8.4.1 Recombinant DNA technology & 3.8.4.2 Differences in DNA between individuals of the same species can be exploited for identification of heritable conditions (A-level only) & 3.8.4.3 Genetic fingerprinting (A-level only). Each lesson should take about 1hour to teach, but you can easily adapt them to your own lesson timings. Making DNA fragments In vivo gene In vitro gene cloning & polymerase chain reaction. Locating genes, genetic screening, and counselling Genetic fingerprinting Using a detailed and engaging PowerPoint the students work their way through the content with a range of whole class quizzes, paired and individual activities. The lessons are well structured and uses real life examples of genetic diseases to enhance the learning of the students. Worksheets are included as PDFs for students to complete (all answers are present on the PowerPoint) with a variety of activities such as labelling diagrams and answering exam style questions. The lessons are self-explanatory in that you can simply click through, and it flows through the content. I use them in my own teaching and my students really enjoy them. In vivo cloning - complete lesson. AQA A level Biology: 3.8.4.1 Recombinant DNA technology (part 2). This is a complete lesson (second in series of 5) following AQA A Level Biology specification section “3.8.4 Gene technologies allow the study and alteration of gene function allowing a better understanding of organism function and the design of new industrial and medical processes”. This resource covers the specification points on “In vivo cloning” from 3.8.4.1 Recombinant DNA technology. The resource contains: an interactive PowerPoint (47 slides) 2 worksheets The PowerPoint contains the answers to all tasks. This is aimed to be an easy to use resource, very straight forward with all answers to all questions (including exam style practice questions). Lots of opportunity to reinforce prior learning through a range of fun quizzes, team competitions and individual work.
