24 cards with statements made by politicians in Spain about homosexuality in the last few years both for and against LGTBQ rights. They could be used as cards to set up a debate or as prompts for essay writing. Bear in mind that some of the statements can be/are controversial and some moderation/adjustment from the teacher’s side might be needed. 24 tarjetas con declaraciones hechas por políticos españoles sobre la homosexualidad en los últimos años, tanto a favor como en contra de los derechos LGTBQ. A while ago we had the opportunity to participate in a Webinar about the need to decolonize the curriculum and we met Maud Waret (you can find her on Twitter as @profprofmfl). Listening to her was extremely inspiring, and from that moment on have been trying to make our lessons and resources as inclusive as we can. Although we have a long way to go, from our position of privilege we strive to make all students feel represented and included. Our classes are becoming more diverse, and that is something we should celebrate. The vast majority of textbooks and resources that we know about the topic of descriptions do not include enough vocabulary to allow all students to describe themselves, their friends or their family. And that’s why we felt the need to create this resource (thanks Maud for your advice!). At the moment we only have it in Spanish, but we would like to do it in other languages as well, would you be interested? Hace un tiempo tuvimos la oportunidad de participar en un webminario sobre la necesidad de descolonizar el currículum educativo y conocimos a Maud Waret (podéis encontrarla en Twitter como @profprofmfl). Escucharla fue extremadamente inspirador, y a partir de aquel momento nos pusimos manos a la obra para intentar hacer nuestras clases y recursos más inclusivos. Aunque nos queda mucho camino por recorrer, desde nuestra posición de privilegio nos esforzamos para que todos los estudiantes se sientan representados e incluidos. La gran mayoría de libros de texto y recursos que conocemos para el tema de las descripciones no incluyen suficiente vocabulario como para permitir que los estudiantes puedan describirse a ellos mismos, a sus amigos o a sus familiares. Y de ahí surgió la necesidad de crear este recurso (¡gracias Maud por tus consejos!). De momento lo tenemos sólo en español, pero nos gustaría hacerlo en otros idiomas también, ¿te interesaría?

Some are labelled wrong! Students must grab one card and name the animal they see before putting it down on a pile in the centre. If the animal is labelled wrong and they read it without correcting it, they will have to get all cards from the pile. The winner is the person who runs out of cards. A lesson to develop students’ understanding on the topic of employment in Spanish. It includes two possible scenarios: looking for a summer job and/or looking for the ideal/perfect job. Students will have to use the website ‘Infojobs’ to find them. Once finished, they could then present their findings to the class to develop speaking skills. With this resource, students will reflect on important aspects during any job search such as the working hours, requirements, qualifitications, etc. An explanation on ‘Infojobs’ as well as a learning mat with specific terms related to the world of work and based around the layout of the website are included. The learning mat also offers sentence starters for those who might need that extra support when presenting their chosen job. Una clase para que los estudiantes consoliden/amplíen sus conocimientos sobre el tema del empleo en español. Incluye dos escenarios posibles: buscar un trabajo de verano o el trabajo ideal/perfecto. A fun activity to drill ‘Free time’ vocabulary whilst developing translation skills from Spanish into English. Based on the game ‘One pen One die’ (‘Games for Teaching Primary French’ by Danièle Bourdais and Sue Finnie), where pupils compete to be the first one to finish all the translations. Here is how to play: in pairs, students take turns to roll the die to decide who goes first. Whoever gets a six starts translating whilst the other person rolls the die to try and steal the pen by getting another six. When they get it, they shout ‘¡Para!’ (Stop!) and ‘steal’ the pen off their partner to start translating. The person who just lost the pen starts rolling it to get number six to steal it again. The winner is the pupil who finishes the translations first. Prompt your students to think of their translation whilst rolling the die so they are always on task! It can also be played online with a virtual die. The PowerPoint includes two differentiated worksheets on Free Time and an adaptable template too to suit the topic being studied as well as to the students’ needs and level. Una actividad muy divertida para consolidar vocabulario y practicar la traducción basada en el juego “One pen One die”. También se puede jugar en línea con un dado virtual.
