Focuses on looking at self-awareness and emotional intelligence
BTEC National Unit 1 Level 3
This lesson looks at how income can impact a persons development. There is teacher input with regards to absolute and relative poverty, considering how redundancy can impact a person’s wellbeing and looking at social class. The lesson finishes with a 6 and a 10 mark exam question, with modelled answers for peer reviewing.
This lesson was taught in a 100 minute lesson, so may provide enough content for 2 lessons if your periods are shorter than mine.
5x 100 minute lessons aimed at KS4 [Year 10] to teach them about radicalisation, extremism, terrorism and counter terrorism. The bundle includes a progress tracker, an additional document worksheet that was uploaded to assignments in teams as a homework task/additional lesson for staff who had them in the final week of the half term- this uses the Stacey Dooley documentary on extremism in Luton. There are a lot of video clips in these lessons, and 1 lesson uses BBC documentary on Neo Nazis. I wouldn’t teach this unit to Year groups in KS3 (Y7-9)
None of the lessons require printing (the first lesson provides a template as we had some key worker kids in, but they can draw an outline at home!) as the unit was taught on Teams during Lockdown 3. Some of the language used in the activities may need to be tweaked to suit a classroom, but this is minimal.
Lesson can all be bought individually in my shop
Please review if you download.

BTEC National Unit 1 Level 3
Lesson 1: This lesson looks at family dysfunction. How this can impact on a child. The lesson also looks at divorce and the Robertson/Bowlby study into child separation, it also covers parenting styles. The lesson finishes with a 10 mark question (that I added to Microsoft Teams). It ended up being a double lesson and taking me around 2 hours to complete due to the amount of discussions we had in the online lesson- also suitable for face to face delivery!
Lesson 2: Looks at Sibling Rivalry and mainly focused on an episode of Super Nanny. Students then complete some independent research into bullying and create an information leaflet.
Lesson 3: This looks at culture, religion and belief. Students do some research into the main religions and how their beliefs impact their diet and medical interventions. There are some video clips to aid discussion and look at cervical screening in BAME women. Students then complete 2 4 mark questions. I again added this onto Teams as an assignment, but within a classroom setting I would ask them to pick the yellow or green tasks for differentiated learning.
BTEC National Unit 1 Level 3

A bundle of lessons to teach PIES for all of adulthood. The A3 sheet accompanies the Netflix documentary the Living Body. This can be found on Youtube
This KS4 lesson (aimed at Y10) looks at how radicalisation happens. It is meant to last 100 minutes, but the final documentary is 30 minutes long and due to the nature of the topic students have a lot of questions/debate so it took me longer than a double lesson to teach this.
The rest of the lessons in this unit can be found here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/ks4-unit-extremism-12487992
A KS4 lesson (aimed at Year 10) that introduces them to far left and far right extremism. Students look at Extinction Rebellion and the Football Alliance.

A KS3 lesson (aimed at Y8) in which students look at the process from arrest to release from prison, the role of the police and how we punish youth offenders. Lesson is 100 minutes long and includes a couple of small video clips
A KS3 lesson (aimed at Year 8) to consider what crime is and how it impacts society. It uses local statistics from Rotherham, so you would need to tweak these activities to suit your local area.
