This is a simple sketch map of Roman Britain, showing the main roads, towns and forts. The children need to identify the numbered towns by their Roman names and their names in the present. I have used this with Key Stage 2 children as part of a history unit of study on The Romans. The second sheet provides the answers.

This is a test which I have given at the end of a unit of study on earthquakes and volcanoes with Year 5 or 6 classes. The test requires children to know about tectonic plates, the layers which make up the Earth and the different parts of a volcano.

This is a timeline looking at major developments during the industrial revolution from 1750 to 1860. Children can cut out the information from the second sheet and stick them onto the timeline, or they can write the information on. You could adapt this by adding inventions and developments particularly relevant to your local area.

This is a timeline of artists, composers and writers from 1840 to 1903. One sheet contains information which needs to be plotted onto the timeline. Children could cut out the information boxes and stick them on, or could write the information onto their timeline. This timeline would be part of a unit of study on the arts in Victorian times during which children would examine art, listen to music and read books from the time. This worksheet is also available as part of a larger resource set.

These two information sheets have varying amounts of detail about Victorian times. One is simpler for lower ability groups and the other is more demanding. There are follow-up questions and suggestions for further research.

I have used this resource as part of a study on Victorian times and the Industrial Revolution. It contains some information about lighting in the past with follow-up questions. The children are then encouraged to carry out their own research on this subject.

This is a simple powerpoint about the development of the telephone from Alexander Graham Bell's first phone to modern day mobiles. It was quite scary to find that I could remember so many that are now historical artefacts!

If you know The Jolly Christmas Postman you will have seen an example of a diorama like this. They are quite easy to make and look great on display. I have based my example on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, but you could have any theme. There are clear instructions, plus photographs of a finished diorama and images of the four parts of my example. You can use this idea for any book or topic in your curriculum.

This is an eye-catching card to make for any occasion. I have included full instructions, including a photograph of the finished card and a template for the balloon shapes. These cards could be made for Christmas or any celebration. You could add more details depending upon the context.

This is an art activity based on still life drawing, painting and collage which will result in each child producing a triptych of pumpkin pictures.

An acrostic poem which gives the rules for behaviour in the classroom. Children remember it because it rhymes and it is, hopefully, not too severe.
