5 Topics to Revise - Factors and Multiples

5 Topics to Revise for Key Stage 2 SATs Since the White Rose Maths Hub began creating questions for Diagnostic Questions just a few months ago, there have been 337,221 answers given by primary school students all over the country. Perhaps more importantly, 116,437 of these answers have been incorrect. So, with SATs on the horizon, we thought it would be a perfect time to reflect on five areas of mathematics that have proved particularly troubling to Key Stage 2 students. The five key areas are: - Area and perimeter - Angles - Equivalent fractions and fractions of an amount - Factors and multiples - Percentages For each of these areas we have provided some supporting resources that you could use with your classes to help overcome these difficulties, together with a mini 5 question quiz you could give your students to see if their misconceptions have been resolved. We really hope you find this useful. Craig and the White Rose Maths Hub team

Here are today's questions. There are two problems for KS1 and two for KS2. In KS1 problem children have to find missing numbers in an addition pyramid and see if they can reason to find a missing number in a different one. They then have to solve a multi-step problem, which initially looks easier than it actually is. At KS2 children have to be able to adding fractions and decimals together and convert between fraction and decimal. For the second question children have to adding and subtract decimals after converting to the same unit of measure. Every day in March the White Rose Maths Hub is aiming to put out a question of the day. Tweet us @WRMathsHub a picture of your children's answers for a chance to win a prize.

Multiplying Decimals - Card Sort Activity

This worksheet is part of our November resources competition. This activity could be used when moving from multiplying a decimal with an integer, to multiplying decimals with decimals. The purpose of the activity is to look at the relationship between the question cards in each group and discuss how they are connected and conceptually why this works. Could also be used as a concentration (match game) style activity. Remember to submit your own resource for your chance to win a prize in our November resource competition. More details can be found here. http://whiterosemathshub.co.uk/wrmhtescomp/

There are four problems for KS1 and two for KS2. In KS1 problem children have to find possible numbers to make number sentences correct and then mark the number 1 on a number line. At KS2 children need to manipulate fractions. Every day in March the White Rose Maths Hub is aiming to put out a question of the day. Today's problems are ones that involve money. There are two problems for KS1 and two for KS2. In KS1 problem students have to recognise the value of coins and use addition and subtraction to work our whether the correct change has been given. The second problem involves children finding a quarter of an amount. At KS2 children potentially need to use all four operations and the problems can be solved using bar modelling. Every day in March the White Rose Maths Hub is aiming to put out a question of the day. Tweet us @WRMathsHub a picture of your children's answers for a chance to win a prize.
