KS1 Writing Lesson. Fathers Day. Cloze Procedure.

Celebrating Fathers Day. An English lesson planned for KS1 but could also be useful in KS2 year 3 This lesson has been planned to help you celebrate Fathers Day with your class. Children will be focusing on their reading skills whilst completing an individual cloze activity that they can take home as a Fathers Day gift. This cloze activity is in the form of a thank you letter to Dad. We are aware that for some children their male carer may not be called ‘Dad’ so we have various versions of the activity so that you can give each child a suitable version to complete as a Fathers Day gift. L.O. I can read back my work to check that it makes sense. Included in this download: Lesson Plan linked to NC2014 Lesson Presentation in Smart Notebook (slides also visible in PDF format) Cloze Procedure Letter Worksheets. (Various Dad, Daddy, Father, Uncle, Papa, Grandad, Grandpa plus a blank version.) All printable resources are in PDF format. Both cursive and standard font versions are included. Word Bank Blank Word Bank (Reduce the number of words on the word bank to further support LA pupils. Extend MA children by removing word bank and asking them to complete activity with their own words. ) We bring you effective, teacher made, fun and creative resources for use in primary schools linked to the English National Curriculum. Chinese New Year. Whole School Assembly

We are ExcitEd to share a fun interactive assembly plan to celebrate Chinese New Year. This download includes: A detailed assembly script, with details about the Chinese New Year festival and an interactive storytelling of the traditional Chinese Folk Tale, ‘The Great Race’. A PowerPoint assembly presentation to accompany the script. (16 slides) Assembly entrance and exit music (Embeded into PowerPoint and links to free MP3 download.) Printable images of all zodiac animals to be used during interactive storytelling. Assembly Content: Starting with calming instrumental Chinese inspired music, children can take their places in the hall. A brief welcome is followed by a true or false quiz to introduce the assembly’s focus - Chinese New Year. (Also referred to as Luna New Year or Spring Festival.) After some information about the festival, where, how and why it is celebrated, there is an interactive storytelling of the traditional folk tale, "The Great Race’. This traditional Chinese tale explains to children how the new years came to be named after animals. Teacher’s should print the included prop cards to use during the story telling. Children could be chosen in advance or on the day to take on the roles of the animals. There is no need for rehearsals as this is completely led by the story teller and the children are given instructions as part of the story telling. The accompaning PowerPoint presentation shows illustrations and text to go alongside the story and could be used as an ebook. At the close of the assembly, the current or upcoming Chinese New Year animal is revealed and some information about it is shared. (this information can be edited so that the assembly can be used each year.) Finally, teachers wish the children good fortune and happiness in the new year using the Cantonese phrase, Gong hei fat choi. The exit music is again a calming Chinese inspired song called Gong hei Fat choi. The assembly should last approximately 15 - 20 minutes. Oliver Twist Diary Entries. KS2 Literacy. 1 Week Unit.

We are ExcitEd to share a fabulous 1 week literacy unit for KS2. This collection of 5 lessons is linked to the Victorians and a child appropriate version of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. The outcome of the unit is an independent write of a diary entry written about Oliver Twist asking for more. Children will have the opportunity to develop and refine their sentence structure skills throughout the week so that they may apply these to their writing. This unit has been writing in line with the English National Curriculum for children work in years 3 and 4. TAF statements have been used to differentiate the lessons for children working towards, at the expected level or at greater depth. This download includes: 5 literacy lessons with resources building up to an independent write of an Oliver Twist themed diary entry. A detailed weekly lesson plan linked to the English National Curriculum. A PowerPoint presentation to support each lesson. Daily starter activities - spelling rule related. Printable worksheets and support materials for each lesson. All differentiated Lesson 1 is a reading comprehension lesson that introduces the children to the story of Oliver Twist. An appropriate version of this story is recommended and could be used as a whole class reader alongside this unit. Lesson 2 looks at the correct use of full stops and capital letters. Differentiated worksheets support children in identifying where punctuation should be used in a model diary entry. The features of a diary entry start to be gathered as reference for the children. Lesson 3 is a role-play lesson that will be exciting and memorable for the class. With the teacher in role, children are dished up gruel and anyone brave enough to ask for more is punished!! This is the basis of children’s independent write and often a highlight of the term. Lesson 4 puts the planning in place for children’s independent writing. They will complete differentiated activities on use of the past tense and first person. Lesson 5 gives children the chance to show off the skills they have developed and refined during the week by writing their own diary entry. The plenary looks at editing and improving. We have found this to be a fun unit of work related to the Victorians. The outcomes have been outstanding. We are ExcitEd! Follow us on Facebook for more ideas and freebies.

We are ExcitEd to share a full, painting focused, art day! Including detailed planning, PowerPoint lesson presentations, wit starter and plenary activities, plus all printable resources. Key questions and tips are also included throughout the lesson presentation. Additional extension activities, worksheets and a display pack add to this comprehensive set of resources. This is a reflective art day looking at cherry and plum blossom in East Asian culture, how it is portrayed in art and what it represents. Developed originally for use with year 5 during spring term, but could be used in any KS2 class. This resource focuses on building work in children’s sketchbooks and upon them developing their brush skills using both water colour and then acrylic paints. (Although the type of paint could be adapted easily.) National Curriculum Links: Art Day Contents: Starting with details of the cultural significance of cherry and plum blossom trees in Japan and China. Followed by a virtual gallery trip to look at traditional East Asian art. A nature walk is also a good stimulus to further inspire children. Throughout the day, opportunities are planned for children to develop their brush skills and also to adapt and build upon their ideas for their final piece of work. By the end of the art day / block of lessons children will have filled several pages of their art sketchbooks and have a final piece inspired by the days work ready for display. The final outcome is a blossom painting inspired by traditional cherry and plum blossom paintings from China and Japan. An extension activity allowing children to explore writing Chinese characters and perhaps adding them to their final piece of work is included as a work sheet. This resource could very easily be adapted to 5 or 6 shorter lessons with the same outcome if a whole art day was not possible.
