Year 1 Letters and Sounds and Weekly Spellings Long-term Plan This document outlines a long-term plan for Letters and Sounds, streaming for 3 Phonics groups and recommended weekly spellings for each group in line with the HFWs and the sounds that have been covered each week. The plan starts with a whole-class review and consolidation of Phase 2 in the Autumn term. Differentiated weekly spellings start in the second half of the Autumn In the Spring term, Phonics teaching is streamed into three groups and the weekly spellings continue. I have not seen a document of this kind anywhere else so I produced it for Key Stage 1 in my school setting. It has been effective and ensured comprehensive coverage and progression of Letters and Sounds along with appropriate and useful spellings. This download includes a PDF version and an editable Word version. Enjoy!

This is a Letters and Sounds assessment to be used for each pupil. At my school we start this assessment in Reception and we assess the children one a term. The assessment is then past up to Year 1 and Year 2. This assessment clearly tracks the children's progress assessing their knowledge of the sounds, high frequency words, blending and segmenting relevant for each phase. I hope that this proves to be a useful tool for you in your setting. This download includes: - An original PDF version of the assessment that I use. - An editabe Word version to tailor the assessment to meet your needs.

French Classroom Labels

These French classroom labels are dyslexia friendly with a yellow background and blue text. Labels include basic classroom objects/ furniture and basic instructions. I have written the French spelling in blue and included a phonetic pronunciation in red underneath each label to support teachers and children with the correct pronunciation. Enjoy!

My Year 1 class thoroughly enjoyed creating their own porridge adverts when we looked at the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Here are 3 differentiated writing templates for porridge adverts. We had some wonderful and creative ideas!

Rainforest Coordinates - slides, and sheets

I did this for an obs lesson. Please find attached slides and 4 differentiated sheets using a 'chillies' startegy (mild, hot, spicy and extra spicy) to allow the children choice of independent task. The children drew rainforest animals in teh grids and had to swap them with a friend to locate the Aftican animals using coordinates e.g. the elephant is in B3. They then wrote sentences to describe this at the bottom of their sheets. Happy plotting!
