Process used - multiplying the denominator by the whole number.
note - in the SAT arithmetic paper, it is not necessary to simplify an answer but it is encouraged as good practice in the worksheets
Two four question worksheets (differentiated as one and two star). For greater depth, answers are to be simplified and converted into decimal for (up to 3 places).
One arithmetic worksheet.
This resource is for year 5 and can be used as either an elicitation task or end of sequence assessment. Learning objectives are as follows:
Can I read, write, order and compare numbers up to 1,000,000?
Round any whole number accurately?
Identify the value of each digit in a number up to 1,000,000?
Use, read, write and convert between standard units of length, mass and time?
Convert a smaller unit of measure to a larger unit, and vice versa?
Order decimal numbers from lowest to highest and vice-versa?
Answers are included on p2 for ease of marking and learning objectives are included at the top of p1 for highlighting whether the objective is met or not.
An arithmetic paper designed for year 6, offering a wide range of questions from across the year 6 curriculum and highly compatible with the calculations your pupils will be confronted with in their SAT paper.
Answers are included at the back - all on one page for ease and speed during marking. A much cheaper alternative to using pre-printed specimens and a very useful tool to assess progress and identify misconceptions.
Revision worksheets aimed at learning how to work out 10, 5 and 1% with the view that any percentage can be worked out using this knowledge as a foundation.
3 tasks included:
- Working out 10% of any given number.
- Working out 1, 5 and 10 % of any given number.
- Using this knowledge to work out different percentages of given numbers.
Answer sheet included for ease of marking/over-shoulder marking.
Task also includes free sheet with word problems aimed at expected and greater depth.

Can I identify the properties of a circle? Can I calculate the area of a rectangle, triangle and parallelogram?
Can I calculate missing angles? Can I calculate the volume of a cuboid?
Can I calculate with square and cubed numbers?
A differentiated set of percentage calculations - e.g. 35% of 460.
Tikka Masala = Finding multiples of 10%
Madras = Finding multiples of 10 and 5%
Vindaloo = Finding any percentage.
Teacher can differentiate or pupils can self-differentiate depending on confidence.
Pack also has a worksheet of 5 word problems aimed at middle and higher pupils - finding discounts/profits etc.
Answers to all questions are included for ease of marking and ‘over shoulder’ marking.
Differentiated into 3 levels of difficulty - addition and subtraction of fractions with different denominators, with mixed fractions included for extra challenge.
Answer sheet is included for ease of marking.
1 chilli = 12 questions using simple fractions with different denominators.
2 chillies = 12 questions using simple and mixed fractions with different denominators.
3 chillies = 12 questions using simple, mixed and addition of 3 fractions with different denominators.
This resource is designed to give year 6 teachers an idea of their children’s current ability across the four operations. Particularly useful as a September tool to highlight strengths and areas for development and pin-point future teaching and interventions.
Sheet includes basic addition and subtraction, short multiplication and division and some algebra and basic fraction conversion work.
Answers are provided for ease of marking.
An Elicitation Task for year 6s to determine children’s current understanding before embarking on a teaching sequence. Questions relevant to SAT arithmetic test and also incorporates word problems that require working out percentages. Answers are included for ease of marking and a matching assessment task is also available on TES Resources.
A worksheet to monitor children’s capability and understanding in using the four operations with both simple and mixed fractions. If you’ve also downloaded the elicitation task, it can be a very useful tool to highlight the progress the children are making throughout your schemes of work. Answers are included with the worksheet for ease of marking.
Exercises involving fractions of numbers (e.g. 2/5 of 240) that can first be discussed as a class leading into paired work. The powerpoint discusses the formulas used for working out fractions of numbers and also touches on the point that, when dealing with fractions, X and OF mean the same thing.
To finish with, plenary-wise, there is a task that children can complete (either in pairs or individually) geared to their level confidence at this particular point. Together with good quality questioning, this should prove to be useful resource across Key Stage 2 (particularly in Years 5/6).
A Year 6 assessment task that can be used to assess children’s current level of understanding in percentages, fractions, multiplication of round numbers and associated word problems. Answers are included for ease of marking.
Can be used in conjunction with the elicitation task for this sequence which is also available on TES Resources.
A full workout on long multiplication - starting with multiplying 3 numbers by a 2-digit number and progressing to 4 digits multiplied by 2-digits.
Exercise provides a 15 question workout that focuses greatly on the 6,7,8 and 9 times tables and tests pupils’ handling of larger numbers from the 20s to the 90s.
Ideal as a maths revision task, holding task or starter/plenary.
Answers are included on pages 3 and 4 for ease of marking.
This is a useful pair of worksheets that can be used for elicitation and the assessment of the four operations, particularly at the beginning of year 6. Used together, they can be utilised to demonstrate progress throughout an arithmetical reasoning sequence and can help identify strengths and weaknesses in these areas of arithmetic.

Answer sheets are included for ease of marking.
Available as Word and PDF so can easily be assigned electronically.
Task that asks pupils to interpret data about the performance of football teams and then place 10 teams into a league table based on the information provided.
They will need to works systematically and use the following maths skills:
ordering
addition
multiplication
subtraction
finding the difference
use negative numbers in context
copy and place data into a table correctly
work logically and systematically
Task can be differentiated by changing expectation of what you wish pupils to do - e.g. you might just ask children to order the teams and simply provide their total points. Greater depths could be asked to fill the whole table with minimal support.
The cover page contains a couple of tips but this is down to the teacher to discretion as to how much support ‘tips’ they wish to provide.
Problem solving task to stretch children working at either expected levels or greater depth.
This can be done either as a group, partnered or individual exercise and gives a workout of the following skills:
area
perimeter
the four operations

application of skills - where and when to apply a certain operation
Some aspects of task may require some support from an adult or more able peer - particularly at the lower end of y5.
Answers (with formulas that work towards the answer) are included for ease of marking.
Task comprising of 3 different exercises that require greater depth thinking to tackle multi-step questions. Good for maths reasoning and a challenge that is suitable for both individual or group work.

9 differentiated problems that have to be solved using inverse operations and basic knowledge of algebra.
Children can complete the tasks in pairs, groups or independently.
There are three 1 star sheets for chn working towards.
There are three 2 star sheets for chn working around EXP level.
