I have been a teacher for over 20 years - all the stuff I upload has been tried and tested in my classroom. I don't mind a discussion on Twitter too where I also share new resources. I now have a personal website: https://andylutwyche.com/

Equations of Lines Codebreaker

This is higher GCSE or A Level co-ordinate geometry which involves rearranging equations to the form ax+by+c=0, finding an equation given a point etc. The joke made my class groan massively, but I was in stitches mainly due to their reaction!

Solve the quadratic equations by completing the square to find the punchline to a (pretty average) joke. My Year 12s liked it as a quick reminder though! Some involve rearranging first and they aren't too difficult - I will use them with Year 11 too.

Find the letters with the given probabilities to find the punchline to the joke! I'm particularly pleased with this joke as I made it up!!!

Calculate each team's final position in the race by substituting in a value of your choice. There's a bit of algebraic proof in there too to see if the teams will finish in the same position regardless of the value substituted.

Chocolate based inequality problems - 6 in all. Display on the board and discuss is how I envisage it working but you may have other ideas. I must thank Deborah @MrsMathia for the logo and initial inspiration!

Who Is The Best 80s Band? - Statistics

(1)
Given the information on the bands A-ha, Depeche Mode, Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Madness, can you argue who the best/most successful band of the 1980s was? This is designed to get students to think about relevant calculations to back up their argument. I have calculated some answers but won't have covered everything.

Moving quite quickly from placing data into Venn diagrams up to Venn diagram notation using common enemies of X-Men and Wolverine. Error corrected!

Calculate the answers; if even colour in the question number in the grid, if not leave it blank. It scans to the Depeche Mode song "Policy of Truth" linking in that we have "lies, damn lies and statistics".

Find the words in the wordsearch then complete the sentences using them. I'd use this as a "plenary" but don't let that influence you.
