Feel free to pick and choose the suitable activities for your child, they may need to do more activities for some of the letters than others, pick the pace that suits their needs! It must always be remembered that phonics is the step up to word recognition. Automatic reading of all words – decodable and tricky – is the ultimate goal. Phonics alphabetical order a-z phonics illustration posters flashcards

Phonics alphabetical order a-z phonics illustration posters flashcards Research shows that when phonics is taught in a structured way – starting with the easiest sounds and progressing through to the most complex – it is the most effective way of teaching young children to read. Use these illustrated alphabet cards to help children begin to recognise the sounds that each individual letter makes and have a bright and eye catching alphabet display in class or at home. This 52 page pack includes: 26 letters of the alphabet with a cute illustration 26 plain letters of the alphabet It is intended to be printed out and laminated so each letter is double sided (the picture letter side/the plain letter side) as shown in the video. Each letter has an image that corresponds to the letter sound, a phrase to “Say” to remember the sound the letter represents, and a phrase to say as you “Write” the letter to remember how to correctly form the letter when writing. For example ‘s’ has a picture of a child on a slide. You can say “ssss, ssss, ssslide”. You can put your finger at the top of the slide and say “Slide down the slide” to show your child how to write the letter ‘s’. I hope you enjoy this product! Total Pages 52 pages

Big Writing: Creative writing picture prompts & quick plan for original stories

(0)
Get some creative writing going using pictures as stimuli. This activity pack has 20 different picture prompts and a simple planning sheet for children to plan and write an original story. Great for creative writing sessions like “Big Writing” or even just a fun story writing challenge. When using this in my class I would do one picture writing session a week. After modelling a few of these sessions and completing the planning and writing through shared ideas, the children became more confident and their stories really went in different directions! How to teach with this Creative Writing tool (example in preview): First pick which picture will be the stimulus for the story. Discuss, study and unpick the picture with the children, talking about what they see, what might be happening, how it might have happened etc. Use the planning sheet to decide what part of the story it might be. Does it explain the characters in the story? The setting? What has happened? Or the ending? Once the children have stuck the picture onto the planning sheet, they can draw pictures to complete the rest of the story. When they have finished their plan they are ready to write!
