Conway's Game of Life

Conway’s Game of Life is a cellular automaton, a zero player game in which the progress and future states are determined only by the start configuration. The presentation contains an animated description of the game’s rules, animated gifs and weblinks. The topic is beyond the school syllabus - perhaps to stretch students in Maths/ Sciences/ Programming/ Philosophy. I hope someone finds this handy - I couldn’t find an introductory presentation on this topic elsewhere. Thanks.

This lesson is a favourite of mine. The topic may not be on an examined syllabus anymore but works as an excellent extension or gain time lesson. Contains a lot of big ideas but broken up with short activities. Differentiated question sheets are embedded in the powerpoint. Ofsted judged this lesson with my year 9s as"outstanding" in every area.

Parachuting Super Lesson: Animated Forces, Graphs & Momentum

(0)
A GCSE Physics summary revision lesson on parachuting. Covers forces, motion graphs, momentum & energy topics. The basics are handled with a card sort and forces quiz. There is lots here to extend more able students. This resource can be easily tailored to suit your class. Students are gripped by the skydiving/ parachuting context. There is plenty of material here which could easily be cropped to tailor to your own class.

Refraction Introduction

I used this to teach refraction at GCSE level, but could work as an introduction for A-level. Uses a tractor stuck in the mud analogy to aid students in working out which direction rays bend. This resource also includes a starter quiz, plenary and question sheets with answers plus a Snell’s law extension for gifted students. There is plenty of material here which could easily be cropped to tailor to your own class.

Covalent Bonding Interactive and Differentiated with Molymods

(0)
A very carefully differentiated lesson on covalent bonding. Starts with a quiz and worked examples. The main task involves students creating molecules and drawing them showing the outer electrons. There are eleven differentiated molecules and answers are included for peer assessment. My class had sufficient molymod molecule kits to work individually.
Distance-Time Graph Performance Game

Distance-Time Graph Performance Game

(0)
A simple and very interactive way to introduce distance-time graphs. Challenge students to act out each of four graphs as the timer moves across. You will need to mark out an 8m stretch of classroom for them to move along. I use a high score table adding each competitor in turn. Animated correct answers are supplied as well as an embedded worksheet - a fun consolidation task.
