This resource is an interactive lesson aimed at whole class or group phonics. It is a powerpoint presentation that allows children to revise phonemes and learn or revisit the sound ‘ar.’ It takes 15-20 minutes. This powerpoint is split into different sections: - Revision of phase 2 and 3 phonemes in a random order - Introduction to ‘ar’ sound and opportunity to trace the shape of the sound - Spotting the odd one out (the picture without the ‘ar’ sound) - Segmenting and blending sounds in ‘ar’ words - Phoneme counting - Phoneme spotting in sentences - Writing words with ‘ar’ sound - Writing a sentence with ‘ar’ sound - Revision of common exception words

Geography - United Kingdom - 11 day Literacy Plan

This is a plan for KS1 Literacy that I used when we were learning about Britain and Ireland. There are 11 lessons in the Learning Journey that lead towards the children making their own leaflets. The children examine a range of leaflets about the local area so that they develop their awareness of what a leaflet actually is. They then experience different types of information text about the British Isles, with each mixed ability group focussing on a different country or city. Three days are reserved for the children to actually make their own leaflets. We invited year 5 to visit at the end of the topic to read our leaflets and vote about which country they would visit. The children loved that part! The children worked in mixed ability groups and each group at some point had the opportunity to work in the role play corner, where they have to do some independent writing.

This is a plan for an assembly on sharing based around the story of Goldilocks. It is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. This assembly involves lots of child input to help you retell the traditional story of Goldilocks. It then links the story to a school scenario. When I used this assembly, children were completely engaged and involved the whole time as they are so familiar with the tale. This plan also includes an example reflection to finish with.

This is a plan for an assembly on Epiphany (when the Wise Men visit Jesus), with the theme of beliefs and differences. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! There is an accompanying PowerPoint that tells the story of Epiphany. I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. This assembly involves the teacher recounting an anecdote which is then linked to the Wise Men visiting Jesus. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with. This is a plan for an assembly on differences. It is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. This assembly uses a school scenario similar to the story of The Good Samaritan. It involves asking for volunteers during the assembly to do some easy acting, something I always find maintains the whole school’s interest. It concludes with a discussion of Jesus’ parable of The Good Samaritan, which I would tell in just a few sentences, though you can use the link to a clip or read from the Bible. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with.
