This lesson was originally created for my intervention year 7 class, however it would be appropriate for any year 5-6 class as well. This lesson introduces the students to the Industrial Revolution and William Wordsworth, with the aim that students will finish the lesson understanding the intentions behind Romantic Poetry. Students will also be introduced to 'I Wandered Lonely/Daffodils) in order to find positive connotations within the poem, associated with nature.

Very low-level differentiated lesson. Students will recap simple word types (adjective, verb, etc.), and simple language techniques. They will then try to find these techniques in the poem ‘Daffodils’. This is very scaffolded and should be quite straightforward.

In this lesson, students will learn how to utilize the 5 senses, and also how to use a range of language devices in a creative piece about the sinking of the Titanic.

This lesson will have students explore various types of promotion and analyse purpose, form and audience. By the end, the students will be writing their own promotional pieces for a book of their choice.

Students can use this planning sheet and also the interview Q&A sheet to work towards writing an article. This could work in the context of any lesson.

Lesson includes a word of the week (impregnable) with accompanying questions, context on Heaney, Stormont and The Troubles, a first reading of the poem and group/discussion work activities.

Lesson complete with a word of the week focus (adversity), a real Titanic diary entry, and guided annotation practice. Great for An Inspector Calls context, Non-Fiction analysis or Unseen Prose practice.

This lesson explores Blake’s poem ‘London’ and the key techniques and ideas present in the poem. This is a bit of a fun take on annotation - it allows the students to, using a ‘case file’, match the techniques and key concepts to specific lines in the poem.

A session intended for WMHD but could be used for a general introduction to mental health and mindfulness.

This lesson is half-punctuation and half-comprehension. This allows students to ‘solve the punctuation crimes’ by detecting the ‘stolen punctuation’ in a sentence. After answering some 11+ style comprehension questions, students will test their punctuation skills by writing a crime fiction piece. The lesson finalises with a peer-review.

This lesson focuses on the effect that students can have on others. At the ends the students will write a letter to a hypothetical friend who is suffering with cyberbullying, offering support, understanding and solutions.

This lesson is on Paper 1 Question 2 - it introduces students to the question, and includes a fun extract from Stephen King’s IT for analysis.

This worksheet can be used in teaching the use of interesting verbs and adjectives, in teaching spy fiction, or just for a one-off cover lesson.

In this lesson, students will act out Act 3 of ‘Dara’, and answer IGCSE Section A style questions at the end. They will contemplate the staging of certain scenes, and the changing relationships between characters - in particular, the relationship between Dara and Aurangzeb.

This lesson focuses on the idea of fate, foreboding and inevitability in Romeo and Juliet. By the end of the lesson, the students will have written a critical paragraph.

This lesson focuses on the events and key themes in Act 4 of the play Dara. After reading the act in it’s entirety, students will have the chance to answer some comprehension questions, and reflect on the way they would stage the execution scene.

This lesson introduces students to speaking and listening as a topic, and asks them to consider what makes an effective speaker, and listener. By the end, students will write their own mini-speech on a topic of their choice.

This lesson focuses on the final act of the play Dara. The students will read the play, and then answer a series of comprehension questions, and one IGCSE style long answer question. The final slide will have students reflecting on their own feelings about the ending, and the change in Aurangzeb’s character between scenes 1 and 2.

This lesson focuses on having the students utilize the 5 senses in order to construct a solid piece of descriptive writing. Whereas this is in preparation for the Cambridge IGCSE Language Paper 1, it can be used for any exam board. E.g AQA Language Paper 1 Question 5 prep

This lesson includes a word of the week (emancipation), an exploration of the key context behind Blake’s poem ‘London’, and an exploration of key concepts related to the poem. By the end of the lesson, students will have conducted a first reading of the poem, and been able to connect key concepts and context to particular stanzas.
