A two page word document which summarizes volcanoes, mid-ocean ridges, the Pacific ring of fire & the life cycle of a volcano. Includes all the key terms associated with volcanoes and has a labeled diagram. Also briefly touches on the pros and cons of volcanic eruptions. I made this to revise the topic with my 3rd years.
For similar hand outs on Plate tectonics, earthquakes and fold mountains, see my 'Shop' where you can buy these in a bundle.
A two page word document which summarizes the structure of the Earth and explains plate tectonics and continental drift. Also includes a labeled image of the World's major plates. I made this to give to my 3rd year students as a revision hand out. For similar notes on volcanoes, earthquakes and fold mountains, see my 'shop' where you can buy these as a bundle.
A 14 slide PPT which discusses the factors affecting climates and the factors which affect local climates. Includes a closing slide with 3 recap questions as well as two think-pair-share discussions. Also includes all animations and transitions. There are 2 cloze tests to go with the PPT which could be used as homework tasks, recap worksheets or as exams.
Two documents...
The first is a PPT with all of the key terms and definitions for population studies e.g. population explosion, natural change, child mortality etc... These should be printed and laminated to make flashcards. This can be used as a lesson starter to establish what the students already know and can also be used at the end of the topic to assess the students. This can be done individually, in pairs or in groups.
The second document is a one page word document with the same key terms and definitions matched up. This can be given after the initial activity.
An 18 slide PPT which explains The Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming. Suitable for junior students. Explains how the Greenhouse Effect is a natural occurance. Discusses the causes of global warming and possible solutions. Contains some cartoon illustrations, diagrams and links to 2 YouTube videos- one short clip from the National Geographic and another animated cartoon to facilitate visual learners. Also attached is a think-pair-share graphic organiser, used to introduce the topic, as well as a cloze test on the topic, which I use as an in-class assesment that is peer-corrected.
The to-do slide at the end of the PPT directs students to the Geoplanet workbook by EDCO. This can be adapted to suit your own book.
A 22 slide PPT which introduces the weather instruments. Based on Irish curriculum so discusses the work of Met Eireann but this can of course be changed to suit the country/curriculum. Discusses each weather instrument, what it is used for and the unit of measurement for each. Doesn't go into detail about the workings of each instrument. Contains plenty of images of the instruments as well as a think-pair-share exercise, a class activity (which can be adapted to suit whatever textbook you are using) and a homework slide (which again will need to be adapted to suit the textbook in use). Also have included a graphic organizer on which the students can summarize what they have learnt.
Four PPTs which introduce the topic of weather and climate. First PPT presents the atmosphere, troposphere, latitude and sun. It is a 14 slide PPT with recap questions at the end.
Slide 2 is based on air masses and weather systems. It has 22 slides, plenty of images, links to animations, homework exercises and class activities. A lot of the activities are based on the Irish book ‘New Geo’ by EDCO and also linked with RTE (an Irish channel), however these can be adapted to suit your curriculum/textbook etc…
The ocean current PPT has 9 slides and includes a think-pair-share activity as well as 2 recap questions.
The final PPT is based on wind and the coriolis effect. There are 15 slides, a link to an animation and plenty of images. There are 2 activities incorporated into this PPT and again, they can be adapted or of course deleted.
Three PPTs - The water cycle, clouds and rain. Each PPT is bright and colorful with plenty of images and the key terms are underlined. There are links to animations and 'The Water Cycle' song in the water cycle PPT. There are also homework/activity slides. These link to the Irish geography book 'New Geo' by Edco but of course can be changed or deleted.
Also included is a cloze test which recaps on the topic and can be used as a form of assessment or as homework.
