Use these French vocabulary building activities with groups of students who need to learn and practice specific vocabulary and what to say in everyday situations in French. 100 DIFFERENT SITUATIONS in which it is useful to have specific vocabulary are included. Each worksheet is only 25 cents! Use these 1 page worksheets all year with students at every level. They make for an easy, no prep lesson when you need to have a sub. I've also used this type of activity a lot with my French club. If you want your students to practice writing and would prefer to opt for a silent activity, why not use them in a fun game of SCOOT? With 100 worksheets you'll have more than enough to put different vocabulary themes on each desk. Instructions are included.
Each of the 100 worksheets is only in French so they are perfect for both immersion and core French programs. The vocabulary themes are suitable for any age, from primary immersion through high school with traditional French as a second language kids. Each worksheet includes an image to illustrate the theme.
There are several ways I like to use these worksheets which are fantastic bell ringers and ice breakers. I love to have them on hand at back to school and toward the end of the year to use as review. All 100 worksheets are also included in my French Ice-Breaker Bundle for Back to School
SCOOT: Tape a different version of the worksheets to each desk or seat in your classroom. Choose vocabulary themes that your students should be familiar with. Students move around the classroom from seat to seat and will rotate through all of the worksheets. All students start at their own seat and take note of the worksheet they begin with. Students write something they would say in the chosen vocabulary theme and record their name next to it. They can’t repeat what another student has already written! When the teacher says BOUGEZ after a chosen amount of time (15 - 30 seconds or so will keep the game fast paced) students move to the next seat and start all over again with a different theme. Play the game until students make it to their original seat. It may be helpful to number the desks so that students will know which seat to move to next. You can always collect the sheets after the game to do a quick assessment if you wish. I’ve included an additional response sheet as the one page worksheet only has space for ten responses.
SMALL GROUPS: Students work with partners or small groups to come up with short sentences using target vocabulary. Using the charts provided, students write down what they would say to the person indicated (doctor, postman, etc) and they write the name of the person who said it. Each person in the group says at least one thing.
There is a one page worksheet for each of the vocabulary themes. I recommend printing them all out and putting them in a folder so that you have easy access when it’s time to photocopy

Here’s how this writing program works:
✍Lundi: Je dessine - Give students a drawing page with a writing prompt at the top. This will have them beginning to think about the writing theme for the week and is their first pre-writing assignment. Kids love drawing, and the pictures they draw will later serve as inspiration!
✍Mardi: Mon livret de vocabulaire - Each student receives a booklet to help them explore the vocabulary related to the week’s writing theme. The front page includes the writing prompt of the week and an image. The second page includes over 80 frequently used French words. Page three lists 12 words that go along with the theme of the week, and the back page has space for ten words that students have either thought of on their own or looked up in the dictionary. The booklet is a simple one page printable that you can either fold in advance or have students do it on their own. Kids write their name on the front cover and you could have them color it.
✍Mercredi: Vocabulaire - Students go back to their vocabulary booklets from Tuesday and choose ten words that they will include in their rough draft. The words they choose can be a combination of words they have chosen and themed vocabulary that was already written in the booklet. They then write down the chosen words on their vocabulary page that says “ Mots de vocabulaire utiles: J’utiliserai ces mots dans mon paragraphe.”
✍Jeudi: Mon brouillon - Students write a rough draft of their paragraph using the vocabulary words selected on Wednesday. The brouillon page includes a 5 point checklist at the top for students to evaluate their work for themselves before writing the final copy on Friday. This will motivate students to look over their work and make corrections.
✍Vendredi: Ma copie propre - The fifth and final step in this writing program is to write the final copy. Students should feel very confident in writing about this week’s theme by now. At the top of the final copy page they’ll see the writing prompt and question words that they can ask themselves while writing: qui - quoi - quand - où - pourquoi - comment

Huge Tense Review
Verb Race is a fun and very exciting way to practice verb conjugations. Your students are going to love these sets of 75 French verbs to use in the fast moving verb race game. Each set includes 75 verbs to work with in the indicated tense.
Classic verb race involves dividing the class into teams and one person from each team goes up to the board to conjugate faster than everyone else. I’ve included full instructions (see preview), tips and rules with this resource. Verb Race has always been a huge favorite in my classroom.
In classic verb race it is usually the teacher who moderates the game, but in the instructions I’ll explain in detail how you can play a student led game so that even your weakest students can participate and learn a ton.
With each game I’m including a slideshow version without answers and student response sheets if you want to project the game and play as a class or in small groups without moving out of desks and up to the board.
I recommend printing out the cards, laminating them if possible, and cutting them out for years of no prep use and verb conjugation review.
Included with each set:
75 calling cards with answers
75 numbered task cards without answers
Slideshow version of 75 cards without answers
How to play
Student response sheet

Here’s how my BATAILLE NAVALE games work: Just print out one page of the version you want to use per student. Students place boats (which are squares on the game sheets that they will have darkened with a pencil) on the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats.
Subject pronouns are written in the vertical column and infinitives are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say the subject and correct verb form in the tense you are working on. If you wanted to practice writing in the given tense you could have your students do that.
All of the vocabulary your students will need is written right on the game sheet and it is all in French. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids and a line separating the two. Students can fold the paper on the line if they want to. One of the grids is for a player to place his boats and the other is to mark and keep track of his opponent.
Most games include 5 versions with both black and white and color copies provided.

Here’s how this writing program works:
Lunes: Dibujo - Give students a drawing page with a writing prompt at the top. This will have them beginning to think about the writing theme for the week and is their first pre-writing assignment. Kids love drawing, and the pictures they draw will later serve as inspiration!
Martes: Mi folleto de vocabulario - Each student receives a booklet to help them explore the vocabulary related to the week’s writing theme. The front page includes the writing prompt of the week and an image. The second page includes over 80 frequently used Spanish words.
Miercoles: Vocabulario - Students go back to their vocabulary booklets from Tuesday and choose ten words that they will include in their rough draft. The words they choose can be a combination of words they have chosen and themed vocabulary that was already written in the booklet. They then write down the chosen words on their vocabulary page that says ”Palabras de vocabulario útiles: Utilizaré estas palabras en mi párrafo".
Jueves: Mi borrador - Students write a rough draft of their paragraph using the vocabulary words selected on Wednesday. The borrador page includes a 5 point checklist at the top for students to evaluate their work for themselves before writing the final copy on Friday. This will motivate students to look over their work and make corrections.
Viernes: Mi borrador final - The fifth and final step in this writing program is to write the final copy. Students should feel very confident in writing about this week’s theme by now. At the top of the final copy page they’ll see the writing prompt and question words that they can ask themselves while writing: quién - qué - cuándo - dónde - por qué - cómo

Here's how the QUEL DOMMAGE game works:
All you have to do is print the game cards on heavy paper or card stock and cut them out. Put all of the game pieces in a box and divide your students into small teams. Give each team gets a box of questions and a copy of the answer key.
Students must replace the underlined words in the sentences with pronouns (for example) and say the sentence correctly. When they are correct, they get to keep their game card. However, when they draw a QUEL DOMMAGE card they have to put all of their game cards back in the box. The student with the most game cards at the end is the winner.
Each set includes:
5 QUEL DOMMAGE cards - You don’t have to include them all in the game if you feel there are too many.
30 numbered game cards - Black and white and color versions provided.
Numbered answer key
