Two columns with pictures/phrases, students choose their own illness, remedy… and then have to guess which of them their partner chose. To practise speaking more the rule is that they have to start the sentence from the beginning and keep going until they use a phrase their partner hasn’t chosen. Similar to battleships but with a longer sentence.

A game for the first lesson in a new group or as recap of first few chapters of book. This is an example of 4 sentences in German, one of which is a lie. Every student writes 4 sentence about themselves, and then go around getting other people to guess which one is a lie.

Power point for the first lesson to show students your expectations for careful copying in German lessons. Students are shown a sentence on the whiteboard and asked to copy it carefully. Then potential mistakes are highlighted and students have to check their own work, e.g. do they have an underlined title, capital letters and umlaut…

Bodily appearance

A ppt with funny pictures of extreme body types (very tall, fat, small...) and a worksheet with sentences in German (Er ist gross, Sie ist klein...). Teacher shows pictures and says sentences in German, students work out the English translation by looking at the pictures and then write it on the worksheet next to the German sentences. Afterwards they can use the writing frame on the worksheet to describe themselves. Not to be used with classes that will get too excited by funny pictures!

An activity for a first lesson with a class. My favourite colour, number ect with a twist. Good to get to know the class and revise word endings and word order. First slide is an example, second slide is vocab and third slide the worksheet which the students copy and fill in the gaps. Same activity in French and German. Have corrected some of the mistakes, if you find more, please let me know!
