This booklet and powerpoint were created for a revision session for my Y13 class. There is a 16 page booklet (word document and PDF) and a 12 slide PPT (editable PPT and PDF). Note there are a range of fonts used so the editable ones may come up funny. The plan for the session is pasted below so you get an idea of what is included: The crime genre – a timeline (two articles and then students map timeline) Detectives and criminals (students watch three short clips to discuss archetypes of these characters) Criminal settings (students discuss settings, read an article, analyse some mini setting descriptions) Example extract – plan! This work has been created to teach students in school during the school lockdown. It is designed to build cultural capital and to not overlap with our curriculum which is still being set for all students. There are 3 sessions/lessons on Midas and then 3 sessions/lessons on Icarus. The sessions follow a similar pattern: 1 - Predict the story, read it, storyboard it 2- Answer comprehension/analyse quotations, learn relevant vocabulary, write an analysis vocabulary 3- Summarise the story, discuss the moral, apply to modern day life. Attached are a .pdf and .doc of the 8 page booklet needed for all 6 sessions, the powerpoint which teachers can use, and the stories themselves.

A display for English students which asks them to write like a critic. Includes example sentence structure, suggested adverbs, verbs and adjectives.

The idea behind a mini mock is that students are exposed to a full section A of the exam paper quickly. They are able to quickly practice key skills and develop their responses by reading a shorter than normal extract. The whole paper is printed on one side of A4. This resource has been produced to be aimed at students studying AQA English Language. It contains a booklet (pdf and editable word .doc) of 8 pages, along with a (minimum) 5 lesson PowerPoint of 36 slides. The booklet includes: A front page with strategies for accessing 19th century non-fiction and an exam overview Two sources (19th century and modern) with letters on the topic of marriage. The 19th century source has 5 tasks which develop the skills needed for the exam. The modern source has exam style questions. Two sources (19th century and modern) on the topic of Charles Dickens. Again the first text has tasks and there are a range of exam style questions for both sources. Two sources (19th century and modern) on the topic of London fog. This has a full section A set of questions. A back page with space for a common 19th century vocabulary glossary. There are some common terms already there, and students are encouraged to add words as they work through the booklet. The lessons include: 5 retrieval questions to start each lesson. They are linked to ‘A Christmas Carol’ and the ‘Power and Conflict’ cluster, but are fully editable so can be changed to suit your texts. The first lesson begins with explaining the strategies and then getting students to read the text and respond to the tasks. The second lesson looks at the differences between Q2 and Q4 and then plan an answer to each. The third lesson gets students responding to these questions, offering model answers and clear success criteria The next lesson encourages students to read the texts and respond to questions quicker, with in built timers used to manage students’ time. The final lesson gets students to attempt part of all the questions, with timers encouraging speed.

A 20 page booklet containing 9 practice questions for Paper 2, Question 4. In the style of the mini mock papers, these practice questions focus on short extracts which provide detailed viewpoints on a topic, followed by a Q4 style question. As per the exam papers so far, students are provided with a 19th century non-fiction text and a 21st century non-fiction text. Students are provided with a small planning grid and then a page to practice an answer, making this an easily printed booklet to provide students with 9 weeks of independent study. A lesson which aids students in building their ambitious vocabulary with a specific focus on describing colour. Includes an image to match 3 colour thesaurus palettes, and a Powerpoint which models how to improve colour description with some more vocabulary to build description.

This is the second set of mini mocks for paper 2. 5 paper 2 and 7 paper 1 are already available free in my shop. There are 5 mini exam papers in the style of AQA paper 2 in this download. This resource contains 6 short extracts which can be categorised as ‘Crime Writing’, They offer a range of crimes from murder and theft, stalking and thoughtcrime as well as crime from the state. This is designed for the AQA A Level English Literature B, Paper 2 task on crime writing. The idea is that students must try and identify the crime within the extract, and then pick out any other aspects of crime they might identify, The 6 extracts are at times 1 or 2 paragraphs, and all 6 fit on one A4 page.

This booklet contains 9 practice questions in the style of AQA English Language paper 1, question 2. For each practice question there is: The extract (a short one, the length it would be in the exam) The question, with phrasing taken from the question paper Space for students to plan their response, with a space for point/quotation, terminology and effect. A page for students to write their response. The front page contains contents and a key word glossary, and the back contains an empty glossary for students to add definitions of terminology. This booklet is entirely self contained so is ideal for homeworks, or tutoring sessions. Both the .pdf and the .doc word document file are included, but the formatting may shift on the word document because non standard fonts are used.

An 8 page booklet which guides students through four autobiographies and encourages comparison and inference. The word document and .pdf are both included in the purchase. This was originally created for Y7 but would be suitable across KS3. The booklet includes: Front page looking at the root of auto, bio and graph. Included are suggested paragraph planning structures for Q5 on both papers. Paper 1: drop, shift, zoom in, zoom out Paper 2: anecdote, research, counter-argument, rhetorical challenge Each one has three tips to include and example sentences. These are accompanied with an example exam with an example plan in the display - not included as I hand wrote this. I printed them A3 as this is ideal display size. There are a range of key quotations from each text typed up in various fonts, then backed with an analytical paragraph where terminology is in red. For A Chrismtas Carol there are 8 quotations in the shape of baubles. For Macbeth there are 3 dagger quotations, 3 light quotations, and 6 blood quotations, so 12 Macbeth quotations. For ‘An Inspector Calls’ there are 7 quotations, one for each character. Please note only the .pdf version has been uploaded. An example picture of each display is included. The character images in each display are also available in another upload.
