Pets 12 pairs of Socks to Cut and Match

(0)
A fun way to incorporate maths with your topic on Animals, Pets and / or clothing. Cut out the 24 colour pictures of socks for children to make into pairs of Pets socks. Children can look out for pattern and colour to help them with their sorting and matching. Once the socks are all paired, children can use the sock template worksheet to create their own Pet sock designs on the white socks and make these into matching pairs. There is a blank sheet that children can paste pairs onto or draw their own socks and designs. For younger children and / or a practical element, ask children to bring in a pair of socks and create a class sorting sock activity! Another idea is to have a box of socks that children rummage through to find matching pairs – use a timer for more fun!

Make a Class or School Puzzle Tree

This is a creative and flexible activity that has a multitude of uses. The idea is to make a tree out of puzzle pieces. On a large scale this looks really effective. Display in class or in the Hall for assemblies. There are a set of instructions for a class or group to use to make their own tree or for an individual to make a puzzle tree. There are then, 8 ideas or ways of using the tree. My favourite is the ‘Achievement Tree’ where the tree starts off with no pieces and then as a child achieves a goal or learns a new skill, then they add a piece of puzzle to the tree. The tree is regularly reviewed and celebrated. This idea supports behaviour manaagement. Other activity ideas include a Story tree, a Number tree, and a 4 Seasons tree. All you need is a box of old puzzle pieces, paint, paper and glue.
