A lesson which is aimed at mid/lower ability GCSE English students exploring how to vary sentence structures in descriptive writing and writing based on an image.
A unit of approx. 6 lessons (depending on pace and ability) which introduces the concept of media representations. This is aimed at Year 9 English students but could be used with GCSE/A Level Media Students. Lessons cover: film genre, representations of ethnicity in the media fosucing on The Help as well as wider media products from a range of forms (advertising, magazines), ethnicity theory, camera angles, gender in TV advertising and music videos (Uptown Funk), LGBTQ music videos (Girls Like Girls) and Todorov’s Narrative.
A lesson which introduces some basic camera angles and explores camera movements, analyses the camera angles used in print based media and a film trailer and a practical task which encourages students to take some still images using a range of different angles.
This lesson is a great introduction to the skills required for the NEA.
A full, lesson by lesson, scheme of work including PowerPoints and worksheets on the modern play Blood Brothers. Also included is a smaller scheme of REVISION lessons which can follow the teaching of the whole unit or be used closer to the exam! Based on the AQA GCSE English Literature specification but adaptable for any teaching! Makes use of SAMS material and mark schemes from the AQA website.

Between 1-2 lessons (4-5 for Exposure) on each poem which include activities, analysis and exam style questions on some of the set poems from the AQA anthology.
Approx. 5 lessons based on Eduqas GCSE media studies; an introduction to advertising and marketing and the set product This Girl Can. Lessons include textual analysis, exam (SAMS) questions and representations. All areas of the theoretical framework are covered!

A lesson focusing on breaking down Neale’s Genre theory and analysing key sequences from Scream and American Sniper (although any film products could be used). This is a set theory for Eduqas A Level media and this lesson is taught in line with this particular specification, but it is relevant to all study of film!

A range of schemes of work for set products for the Component 1 examination. Makes use of SAMS as well as other exam style questions (not SAMS) and includes model answers from students. Also included is a small ‘introduction to media’ scheme of work and an ‘exam map’ which breaks down the exam offering suggestions on timing.

A detailed and comprehensive SOW focusing on: context, genre and media language for A Level Eduqas Media Studies component 2 section A. All elements of the theoretical framework are covered and homework tasks are planned. This scheme also makes use of the feature film All Good Things and SAMS material.
A full scheme of work of between 5-7 lessons on Tide for Component 1 Section A and B of the Eduqas A Level Media exam. Lesson cover: media language, representations, audience and look at and break down relevant theories (Van Zoonen, Gerbner, Stuart Hall, David Gauntlett).
Also included is an assessment which is a comparison exam question (similar to SAMS so this mark scheme can be used) comparing Tide with a 1950s Quality Street advert.
A lesson which looks at approaching unseen analysis and guides students through the comparison question for Eduqas A Level Media Component 1 Section A. This exam question, which is similar to the SAMS question (so this mark scheme can be used), compares the set product Tide with a 1950s Quality Street advert (taken from the Eduqas GCSE set products).
Approx. 1-2 lessons designed to help GCSE or A Level media students understand British politics. This lesson defines what a Political Party is and explores the ideologies of the three main political parties in the UK. This is relevant to the study of newspapers for Eduqas GCSE and A Level Media studies so focuses on ideologies. The final task asks students to create in Instagram page for each of the main political parties which demonstrates the ideology of each party.
This lesson is intended to be followed by analysis of the ‘set’ newspapers and analysis of how political ideologies impact these newspapers.
Three lessons (taught as a 2 hour double and then single lesson) on the representations in the WaterAid ‘Claudia Sings’ advert for Component 1 Section A of the Eduqas A Level Media exam. Lessons cover: all representations and reps theories including a lesson which breaks down and analysis bll hooks theory in relation to WaterAid.
AN UPDATED SOW on Formation for Component 1 Section A Eduqas A Level Media Studies. This is a more refined scheme with detailed and comprehensive lessons which are intended to be taught over a number of weeks. All elements of the theoretical framework are covered: media language, genre, representations, technical codes, theory, contexts.
A simple lesson exploring the concept of Postmodernism and Baudrillard’s theory for Eduqas A Level media.
The lesson assumes that students have some knowledge of postmodernism already and focuses on Component 2: TV in the Golden Age and documentaries (The Jinx and No Burqas Behind Bars) but can very easily be adapted for any analysis of any media products (Formation, Life on Mars, Riptide…).
A full scheme of work of approx. 5 lessons on Component 1 Section B for Eduqas GCSE Media. These lessons cover all areas of the framework and exam questions which are NOT SAMS - one is from an Eduqas sample paper and the other is of my own design (the SAMS mark scheme can be used for this one) there is also a lesson which explores how to approach the ‘stepped’ questions in section B and gives advice on timing and command words. Also makes use of the Eduqas GCSE textbook.
