Gender representation - Applied to a TV commercial

(0)
In this 14 slide PowerPoint lesson, the concept of gender representation is introduced and then applied to the Lynx Find Your Magic TV commercial (YouTube link provided within the PowerPoint). Screenshots of the ad appear alongside suggested notes related to the diverse range of gender representations that feature in the ad, a fantastic example of a 'rich text'. Learning is consolidated with an essay question at the end of the lesson. This would be an ideal way of demonstrating the theory in action. Useful teacher notes are provided in the notes panel when viewing the PowerPoint in edit mode. Stuart Hall's Audience Reception Theory - Applied to a TV commercial

In this 16 slide PowerPoint lesson, Stuart Hall's Audience Reception theory is introduced using a (slightly rude!) mnemonic. The theory is then applied to the Lynx Find Your Magic TV commercial (YouTube link provided within the PowerPoint). Screenshots of the ad appear alongside suggested notes related to the preferred, oppositional and negotiated readings of the ad. Learning is consolidated with an essay question at the end of the lesson. This would be an ideal way of demonstrating the theory in action. Useful teacher notes are provided in the notes panel when viewing the PowerPoint in edit mode. Make media analysis easy with the red-green system!

This easy to remember writing pattern will have an immediate impact on your students' ability to analyse a media text. This 'ready to go' PowerPoint will walk the students through the process with a modelled example, before providing them with an opportunity to apply their new skills. The perfect introduction to media analysis, the example provided is print advertising but the system can be used in any media analysis context. The PowerPoint covers gender representation, denotation, connotation, signifier and signified but in an easy to access, clearly illustrated way. 1 x PowerPoint 1 x note taking handout This is how I get all my students - from GCSE to A Level - to analyse effectively instead of just describing the text.

Zombie Attack! Times-Table Card Game

Zombie Attack! Times-Table Card Game

(0)
This simple zombie-themed card game has been developed to help make learning times-tables fun! The times-table facts have been divided into three sets of colour-coded cards based upon their level of difficulty. Students choose or are allocated their difficulty level and given a set time to try and destroy all 12 of the zombies in their set. They do this by giving the correct answer to the times-table sum shown on the card, causing the 'zombie' to be discarded. If they get it wrong, the zombie returns to the deck to be encountered again and again until it is destroyed - unless the time runs out! A simple, fun way to get students revising the times tables facts. Also, great for differentiation as the teacher can set the difficulty level and time. The 36 cards are provided on A4 sheets so will need printing back to back, or gluing together. An instruction sheet written for students is also provided. The 1 x, 2 x, 5 x, and 10 x tables are not included as the game is designed to improve recall of the more challenging time table facts.
