Black History Month 2024 Raising Narratives This upload is a task that can be run in different group or 1:1 sessions. Full Room – perfect for group situations Print out the labels of AGREE, DISAGREE and DON’T KNOW/MAYBE Stick them across the room (ideally agree and disagree on either side and don’t know in the middle) Read out each statement and ask the class/group to stand where they feel they would respond to each statement You can then pick individuals to ask why they have chosen to stand there/why they think that Try to encourage free thinking rather than following their friends! Smaller Group – perfect for small groups or 1:1 sessions Print out the labels of AGREE, DISAGREE and DON’T KNOW/MAYBE Print out all of the statements Lay the labels of agree/disagree/don’t know out across the table Ask the young people to work together or to do the task individually and to place each statement next to the appropriate answer to show how they feel about it You can then ask why certain statements have been placed in certain places These can help to encourage deeper thinking and to challenge thoughts about the topic.
