An induction activity for students studying A level Sociology. I give the students this activity to complete during the summer break between Year 12 and 13 in preparation for the Beliefs in Society module. It gets them thinking about how they will conduct the research. I encourage them to explore some primary research and visit a local religious community. During the lessons, they have a great case study to apply to what they learn, particularly those students that are not members of a religious community.

These WTQ worksheets give students an answer and they have to write an appropriate question. Very good for revision. A good starter for revision lessons which lead to discussion on the best wording for the question to fit the answer best! “It will look good on your CV” is not a phrase I like. I say do it because it’s the right think to do and will make you a better person. This assembly was inspired by a personal tragedy but the pride I had that the person had lead a great life rather than have a great CV.

Assembly shows images of all popular personalities who met through Cambridge Footlights or the Oxford Review and their future careers changed as a result. The importance of meeting people and making contacts.

Originally put together as an assembly, it is also useful as part of an English curriculum on Shakespeare.

This assembly challenges how students view what learning is, especially in preparing for examinations. It emphasises the importance of learning not just for the exam. Using the Eiffel Tower as an illustration of how the view from the top and bottom are very different.

Following the Nobel Prize 2017 the assembly looks how the body clock affects how our bodies work. This links with the importance of sleep.
