Students examine cartoon interpretations about the Treaty of Versailles offering their thoughts on the author’s view. The main activity is a newspaper article whereby the use their knowledge from Lesson 2 and Task 1&2 from this lesson to outline why the Treaty was hated and why the German people should be angry with the new government for its part in the peace agreement. A 12 mark exam question concludes the lesson with the students explaining why there was opposition to the Treaty. As always a step by step guide is included as well as high-quality (differentiated resources).

An easy to follow lesson which recaps knowledge of the church and further helps students to understand how its influence changed in the medieval period. Students analyse images to infer what they tell us about the importance of the church. They review two short video clips which looks at trial by ordeal and then its subsequent removal in 1215 by the Pope. The main task involves students looking at the role of the king, the church and local communities and how their influence changed between 1000-15000 by making a line graph (annotated). They must explain what the graph shows and pick out the key events. The lesson concludes with a 12 mark exam question. A double lesson is suggested to cover the content and skills that this lesson covers. A lesson which looks at the many changes that took place in the years 1924-1929. Students work through a role play activity to determine the amount of change that took place in Weimar society. A clear instruction sheet is included as well as detailed, differentiated resources so that the task is completely student led. Once students have completed their role play response sheets there are a range of activities that they need to respond to, for example categorising the changes and ranking these. There are some follow-up activities which can lead to open-ended questioning and discussions to test knowledge before an extended response task is introduced so that students can write-up their findings. Literacy support is included. This lesson should ideally be taught as a double lesson.

This is a 19 page teaching booklet for the French Revolution Unit of Work. The booklet includes a range of worksheets and activities, such as card sorts, the storming of the Bastille newspaper writing activitiy, source activities, decision-making tasks, worksheets and information sheets. The booklet includes enough material for 6 lessons and is aimed at Key Stage 3 (USA ages 11-14). The activities cover the key areas of the French Revolution, for example the causes, key events, interpretations and its impacts on human rights and modern day implications. The booklet can be taught as a sequence of lessons or the worksheets can simply be used for one off lessons or cover lessons. All activities are student-led and easy to follow.
