Dividing into a given Ratio

The series of worksheets and worksheet generator looks at a variety of ratio questions students could meet in the new GCSE examination. The first worksheets look at the more basic dividing into a given ratio. subsequent worksheets look at the more complicated ratio questions that appear on the papers and many students struggle to answer. The reason behind the generated question excel package is that you can generate an infinite number of worksheets. Hence students can have endless practice at this questions. Alternatively you can generate a complete set of different questions so that each member of the class has their own set to answer!

GCSE Mathematics : Revision End of Term Games

This activities are aimed at key stage 3 students but could be used as revision for students who are revising for their GCSE examination. Each round consists of four questions. Print the slides 8 to 13 on A4 paper and place one printed slide per table. Students are put into pairs (either by choice or teacher selection) and are given a copy of slide 14 and a few sheets of pieces of A4 paper. The pairs are designated a starting table and the timer (slide 2) is started. The students are then given 5 minutes to answer the four questions on that table. Once the five minutes is up the students move clockwise to the next table and start the next set of four questions and the timer of slide 3 is started. This continues until all students have completed the six tables worth of questions. The answering of the questions takes no more than 30 minutes. Students then remain at their final table, swap their answer sheet with the nearest table and the answers are produced. At this stage I go through the questions before revealing the answers. In this way the students have had a go at GCSE style foundation questions and have also seen a demonstration as to how they should have been answered. Finally, students add up their score and the highest score get a prize!

GCSE Graded Resources

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic and recent lock downs, I have designed a series of graded worksheets which can be used to identify gaps in students work throughout the grades. This first batch looks at the material which should cover most topics in the Foundation Tier, graded from 1 to 5. There are approximately 3 to 4 sheets for each grade (with answers). The idea is that a student is given a grade 1 sheet to complete. Once marked and reviewed, the class teacher can then identify class issues, individual student issues and revise accordingly. The a second grade 1 sheet can be given to see if there is improvement. This can be completed for a third and sometimes a forth time. The same approach is then given to grades 2, 3, 4 and 5. This can also be used to seek what worked in lock down with on line learning and what did not.

Suitable for both KS2 and KS3 students. Due to COVID the way we teach has altered somewhat. These days I find it easier to have my examples preprinted with students filling in the gaps between examples in class with the aid of the teacher at the front. A workbook is then provided which allows the student to answer directly in the book. Note: I tend to print the examples as A4 and the workbook as an A5 booklet. Lesson 1: Examples and workbook on Decimal place value. Lesson 2: Examples and workbook on Addition of decimals Lesson 3: Examples and workbook on Subtraction of decimals Lesson 4: Examples and workbook on Multiplication of decimals The examples are also available to buy as a PowerPoint lesson on the shop.

General GCSE Maths grade 1 to 3 revision

This revision lesson I put together based on material I found most year 11 foundation students were struggling with. The revision mainly focuses on the students ability to apply the four rules of number to some literacy based question. The second revision lesson I have added is on number machines as I found that students were fine with using the number machine one way but poor on reverse. Hence practice makes perfect!

Here is a small group of revision lessons I have recently used for my year 11 students. These have been written with them in mind and cover the types of questions they were struggling with. Generally I tend to go through one or two at the board before they attempt the others. Revision lessons included are Probability tree diagrams Distance speed time Ingredient questions Flow diagrams and some general “wordy” questions that can be troubling for many students.
Transformations of graphs Introduction

Transformations of graphs Introduction

(0)
These two lessons and worksheets are lessons which cover the translations of graphs and the knowledge of stretching a graph by a given scale factor. The lesson is aimed at the students working out the translation which takes place by initially drawing certain graphs and then linking them the original graph drawn. This is then followed by a series of examples. The second lesson is similar in that the students are encouraged to draw a series of graphs before linking them to the original as a stretch. The lesson then continues with a series of worked examples. Both lessons have a worksheet with solutions.
