Aimed at a higher age group, this is an ideal work pack for a history / politics class looking to understand more about democracy and reform. The Peterloo Massacre was an important event in local history. This sheet begins with an introduction to Richard Carlile, who escaped the Peterloo Massacre and published his own eye-witness account and put pressure on other papers to keep reporting on the massacre. The students are instructed to create their own news article about the Peterloo Massacre. As this is supposed to encourage students to research and explore the events of the Peterloo Massacre for themselves, this is intended as a homework activity, but you are also able to incorporate it into your class if you prefer.
