A selection of challenging vocabulary (to place on your display) with definitions, which challenges the children to use more complex choices. I have used it this year in my class and the impact on the children's writing was immediate. During an observation by an OFSTED inspection, it was high lighted as a really strength. The topics links to class novels and include: narratives, discussions, persuasion, poetry (rap and WW1), newspapers, reports and Britain Since 1948. The vocabulary links to both the writing genre and the medium (class novel). Class novels include: Skellig, Kensuke's Kingdom, Holes, Coraline and Once. These topics covered my whole year's teaching.

I used these ‘6 a day’ questions at the start of every Maths lesson - there are 75 days worth, and the question become progressively harder. They cover everything which will appear in the Arithmetic KS2 test. It covers the four calculations, percentages and fractions (alongside BODMAS and squares, cubed numbers). My children in Y6 love working through these 6 a day, and after doing it for 2 years, I know it has great impact on their understanding, and also the SATs results!

This resource includes questions for the whole of the book ‘Once’ - I have used these questions in Guided and Shared Reading, homework and intervention groups. There are on average 6-12 questions per chapter (obviously some have more). Answers will vary based on the evidence a child provides, therefore this only includes questions.

This resource is a 4 day unit on algebra in year 6. It includes a simple introduction to algebra, area of rectangles and triangles using algebra, and equations. It includes the Activinspire charts to accompany each day, plus the relevant work. Work is differentiated by 3, in line with the maths expectations for fluency, reasoning and problem solving.

This PowerPoint leads the children through two extracts from classics (Lord of the Flies and Treasure Island) - there are questions linked to the texts (including vocabulary choices, inference, and summarising the text). Prompts then follow to allow children the chance to still work independently, with clues to the mark allocations. There then follows the mark scheme. This process is repeated for both extracts. There are also two ‘Going deeper’ questions. I have used this with my children in class with great success. Due to the complexity of the text, this can be used with older children.

This resource includes all the ‘Activinspire charts’ and worksheets need to teach a week of ratio and proportion for Y6 (age related expectations). The work is differentiated by 3 ability groups and includes the 3 areas of maths: fluency, reasoning and problem solving. Each day starts with ‘6 a day’ arithmetic questions.

This resources includes 4 days worth of material for teaching Pie charts to Y6. Each day includes an ACTIVINSPIRE chart to lead children through the concepts. There are also worksheets to accompany each lesson - differentiated by the 3 ability groups - the last day is a paired activity.

A Guided Reading lesson using extracts from the novel 'Matilda'. There is an introduction PowerPoint to share with the class, which introduces them to the concept of PEE (point, evidence and explanation), followed by an example. A 4 week unit of work based upon Graffiti. This includes the 4 lesson plans, which take up a half day session (can spend longer than 4 weeks if taught in shorter blocks). It leads the children through the process of using graffiti and is linked to Black History Month

This is ‘Arithmetic Dash’ a board game to support children to develop their arithmetic skills in a fun manner. My children love this game. They can play with 2-6 players and the game can be altered e.g. change the time the children get to answer a question. There is a complete game, with questions already on the board. There is also a blank game with numerous cards to pick from. Questions are all related to the KS2 Arithmetic test.

This includes 3 weeks planning on historical diaries and all resources, including Activinspire flipcharts for each lesson. It is based on the stunning novel 'Once' by Morris Gleitzman about WW2 and a child fleeing to find his parents. Many resources refer to My Secret War Diary, which is excellent for using extracts. This was aimed at my Y6 class, however can be used with Y5 or Y7+ if needed. The work produced by my class was stunning and the children fell in love with the novel.

A knowledge organiser based on ‘Coraline’ by Neil Gaiman to use for revision on the novel. It can also be used to support children in developing a greater understanding of the themes in the book, by identifying key information, quotes, vocabulary and discussion points.

This is a complete medium term plan for teaching 'Pointillism' to Y6. It is based on the Mongolian landscape from the book 'The Unforgotten Coat', but can be adapted for any scene. It is step by step and easy to follow for teachers lacking confidence in delivering Art.
