It requires high level thinking skills with a specific focus on the skill of evaluation. It covers the Cuban Revolution; Bay of Pigs and the Missile Crisis. This resource can also be used for GCSE units, and will take about 2 hours to teach.

This is a 22 slide power point which will take about 3 hours to complete. It focuses on the questions surrounding the dropping of the atomic bomb. It contains a range of activities; sources and video clips with an extended assessment task at the end. This lesson considers the aims of President Kennedy’s economic policy and how far it was successful It contains a variety of task including exam-style work and discussion. It was created for the AQA American Dream unit of work but could be used for any post 16 study of the presidency of JFK.

This lesson has been created to help GCSE students to answer questions which require them to explain how interpretation differ, and give valid reasons why they differ. It is taught through explaining the concept of interpretations of history; understanding the role of an historian; examples of model answers and opportunities to practice examples of GCSE questions. This is a lesson which forms part of a Year 9 scheme of learning on the 20th century world. It is particularly useful for students who have not chosen history at GCSE. It contains opportunities to identify methods used by the USA and USSR to put across their message during the Cold War and focuses on a War of Words. Students will demonstrate that they understand messages and the author’s purpose by looking at a range of propaganda images and film clips. It focuses on the successes/failures of Nixon as Vice President, and his relationship with Eisenhower, and traces the end of MaCCarthyism. It contains a variety of research; card sort and video activities, and takes about 3 hours to teach.
